I think it happened in May 2011. He didn't play in 2011-12. He didn't play in 12-13 - wasn't on the team. So 1 of those years would be his redshirt year. So he should play this Fall with 2 years eligibility remaining. I guess he could petition the NCAA for an extra year citing unusual circumstances.

It (eligibility timing) depends on interpretation of NCAA rules on transfers. I have heard it said that the "sit out" year doesn't start until the transfer is complete so he MAY not be eligible until 2014.

He was kicked off the team in July of 2012. The 2012 season would count as his year to sitout. He should be eligible for the next season. He should also be able to participate in spring training
