Seems like more and more restaurants in Virginia have TV's on the wall. It's not just for sports bars anymore.

"Ubiquitous." is quickly becoming my least favorite word.

Mine too. And you see it everywhere.

The room looked great and a TV in the wall worked with dark wood and maroon walls. The overall appearance of the restaurant and the food was excellent. It is a classy establishment.

There were some things that bothered us and these are the types of things that keep people from coming back. We sat down and did not get silverware until we asked for it. We bought 3 appetizers to share for the table and while they were delicious and the presentation was nice, they did not bring appetizer plates even after we asked. We sat down at 8:30 and our drink order was taken at 8:45 and we didn't get our drinks until after 9 our appetizer order wasn't taken until 9:15 and our food order wasn't taken until 10 or so minutes after we finished our appetizers. Everyone enjoyed their food, minus me (the tortellini was bland and tasted like a lean cuisine meal). Three times we went to order something and they were out, but being opening weekend and having no sale projections, I would hope this will not be a problem in the future. When we finally got our checks at 11pm (after asking twice) they messed up everyone's bill. The server could not count change and everyone's change was off. One of my party's individuals should have 15 back but instead had 5. When he asked the server he pulled a 10 out of his pocket and said he new about it even though he made no effort to fix it on his own. He also swiped two peoples cards for the wrong bill even though the cards were in the correct bill folder to what their order was when he took their cards.

Over all the issues were mostly our server and the food and atmosphere were good. One appetizer, two drinks and two meals were $55 so the price is reasonable for a upscale restaurant. The restaurant is not a sports bar and will not become a college bar. This would be a good place to take the wife and leave the kids at home.

Sounds like a lot of work flow/work experience issues. A little surprising given the reported experience of the Bruce's partner(s). Hope you feedback about the bland tortellini made it's way to the kitchen.

I appreciate all the feedback and working with staff to get the kinks worked out before we visit Toledo. :-)

That is why a manager should be casing the place all night. I can't believe nobody was checking up on every table during the night. Especially during the initial few weeks.

RE: Gradkowski's
Old days even in the neighborhood restaurant, the owner/cook would come around a visit tables. Shame that's lost.

Sounds like another "corporate" restaurant and I don't even know what lean cousine tastes like. Maybe Grad could get his Mama here to shape the place up. I seem to recall articles about her feeding his NFL team?

I can't remember the last time I went to a restaurant and the manager did not come around at some point after getting our main meal to see how everything is. Hopefully this was just a really bad server and kinks because of it being an opening, but I'm wondering about the management of this restaurant right now based on that review.

At one point, he did come out. To ask how the food was, and tell me I was the first to order a specific drink. But I see where you were going with this.

Another thing after talking to my parents, we figured this would be a great place for parents to take their kids when the come visit. Why not take them to a place a little more upscale for a good meal, that is super close??

Well, perhaps my expectations were a bit lowered by the above review, but my wife and I had a wonderful experience. We arrived at 4:25 and the place was packed, based on what I figured was a post-WBB crowd. The hostess even stated, "oh terrific, we were waiting for you," saying that the last remaining table was ours based on our reservation. We were approached by our server Christian within two to three minutes of our being seated. He took our drink order, a chocolate martini for my wife and a glass of red wine he recommended for me. At the same time we ordered an appetizer of "Drummies", chicken drumsticks marinated in an olive oil-basil-tomato mixture that were very good. We split a small Gradkowski Garden Salad, which had a nice parmesan ranch type dressing and wonderfully seasoned croutons. We both ordered the Steakhouse Burger, which is very good and an apparent house specialty among their burgers, since it was highly recommended by our waiter. Very good suggestion, I might add. My wife's burger was just slightly bit more pink than she may have liked, but mine was perfect. The sandwich is served with a seasoned shoestring french fries. We ended our meal sharing a slice of cheesecake, which because of its caramelized sugar topping, had a creme-broulet type flair.

Bruce did come over to the table to see how everything was, and thanked us for coming. It was a nice touch.

The only negative I would even mention was our drinks took just a bit longer than what we were accustomed to when dining out, but again, that will improve over time.

Our meal, two Steakburger meals with fries, chicken drumstick appetizer, small Gradkowski salad, chocolate martini, glass of red wine, Diet Coke, Iced Tea and Cheesecake...$77.00.

We will definitely go back.

RE: Gradkowski's
The football coaching staff took the weekend recruiting official visitors to Gradkowski's after the women's b-ball game today. You were probably there at the same time.

I've gotta say, it's a pretty cool recruiting idea to take official visitors there for a meal and then have a former Rocket legend and current NFL QB come over to see how their meal is.

Bruce was at women's game and was sitting court side across from our bench. He must have gone right over to the restaurant after the game.

If it's the same manager who hired a server who can't even frickin' count I could easily believe he wouldn't be paying attention to the dining room. I can't believe they would put someone that incompetent on the floor during dinner shift and give him a table of 10. You can't blame that on the kitchen.

Chocolate martini and glass of red wine.....appetizer and dessert as well. I can see it costing that much.

We had dinner there tonight. On par with Biaggis's in Perrysburg. My wife's filet was one of the best she's had. My salmon was very good. Watched the men's game while finishing our dinner. We will be back.

Given the atmosphere and quality/amount of food, I didnt find $77 all that expensive. But, I've lived in Chicago and currently work in Ann Arbor where a comparable meal at a restaurant with similar ambiance would be in the $100 range.

$10-17 a drink on South Beach. $77 is what NIU fans paid for a light lunch for two at the host hotel for the Orange Bowl.

RE: Gradkowski's
Me and my wife stopped in after the Rocket b-ball game yesterday... Pretty much what I expected, and in a positive way... Definitely more upscale than the Applebees and Olive Garden type restaurants of the world... An appetizer, house salad, and four drinks came to under $40... Not bad, only downside, no Chevas Regal available at the bar... 03-banghead
I believe that Gradkowskis will make it in the longrun because of its proximity to the surrounding affluent areas, and folks visiting UT will have a very nice dining establishment on campus to patronize...

Server issues aside, I had the best Manhattan and pork chop perhaps ever in my brief existence on this planet. I will go back again for sure, knowing that there are a lot of kinks to get out. I anticipate a menu revision in the warmer months. Fantastic otherwise.
