RE: 3,266 Tickets Sold for the Orange Bowl
That number is similar to what UConn did for their BCS bowl. My friends bought 20+ for their group off of an outside broker I'm sad to say, and so did many many others. Nobody gets the "by through NIU" message like the people on this board... The butts in the seats is all that matters and we had a very nice crowd in Miami.

The butts in the seats is not all that matters, especially when it comes to getting selected for future bowl games.

I am curious about the 8100 donated tickets.

Donated by NIU...Alum Association, Foundation, Athletics or Donations from fans to NIU?

Distributed to...NIU fans, Armed Forces/Boys and Girls Club or something else?

That's where I keep coming back to wondering what portion of the "donation" were "donated" to other arms of NIU?

If people paid for the doanated tickets that needs to be counted as tickets sold. A lot of people bought them that could not go to the game.

I assume a good number of people thought: 'hey, the MAC is covering NIU, might as well get there cheap and buy through Stub Hub'

If people paid for tickets and donated them, they would have been counted in tickets sold. NIU isn't sandbagging their tickets sold numbers. 8,000+ were donated BY THE SCHOOL.

Well, the total distributed adds up to 15,500. Throw in some other fans sprinkled through other sections and you're in the middle of that range.

Do you guys have any idea how much money NIU would be eating if it wasn't for the MAC? We're talking millions (and millions).

I know those numbers seem pathetic, but the show of support for the team in the stadium was awesome and I'm still proud of the number of fans that made the trip. Those of us who bought from the ticket office ( I got 5) did what we could, but the secondary ticket market proved to be too attractive to the majority of the NIU fans. I still say there had to be 25,000+ that night.

I think you are wrong there. Anybosy with a internal source needs to confirm. NIU donated the tickets, becasue I paid for a portion of them. Why not donate up to the 17.5k number. It does not make sense.

I would be in agreement, I think we need more clarity from Nitz as to where exactly all the tickets went and who bought what. This is vague to say the least.

RE: 3,266 Tickets Sold for the Orange Bowl
Not sure I get the big deal...we have a good number of people in the stands, Miami area had plenty of Huskie fans there, I don't care if they bought their ticket from NIU, were given their ticket, or stole their ticket. They were there.

I understand from a future bowl perspective...I guess, but why does it matter with the current bowl format? If there's a choice, is NIU ever going to get selected over a BCS team? God no...And if it's down to MAC specific bowls, it will probably be decided all on standings that year.

11k was the number passed on around on tickets paid for, so it makes sense that 3k were bouhgt and delievered to attend the game and 8k were donated. Really need to confrim that 8k were purchased for donantion to understand the numbers. Difference between other like UConn was that we were in the stadium in force. You can question whether it was 15 or 20k, but it was loud and a great turnout.

Yeah...I don't see any way there were only 5K NIU fans there...maybe I'm way off in estimating people.

Several thousand were donated to Miami-area charities.

8,000 were not purchased for donation. That's not true.
