Remember the old rocket slide at Oakhaven Park
This week on Restoration America they restored a slide that looked very similiar (if not identical) to that one. I'm sure that many were manufactured and installed in playgrounds across American in the 1960's and 1970's.

that pic looks like the one at McFarland park on Cottonwood in Parkway Village ... We used to climb to the top on the outside of the 'rocket' .. not really a good idea, but seemed to be at the time

Some parents at my son's former elementary school want the swing sets taken down before someone gets badly injured.

I didn't realize that there was more than one in Memphis. I bet the Park Commission bought them at ths same time. I played on the one at Oakhaven Park on Bishop's Bridge Road...just south of Oakhaven HS. My grandparents lived in that neighborhood.

I wonder is those were the only two or if there were more in other city parks?

Must've been a Park Commission thing because the old park at the Ed Rice Community Center in Frayser used to have one as well. Raced to the top only to find that someone left a present there once...

There was one of those in the park where I grew up in Grapevine, TX.

It was a death trap when I was a kid between the rusted out metal and the millions of wasps who called made their nests in the top of the rocket.

We had a blast on it (no pun intended).

My grandparents lived near Poplar and Decatur, right across from the projects, just north of the VA hospital. Just west of there, they had one of these in Morris Park at Poplar and Manassas. I remember the one on Cottonwood as well.

That rocketship was at grapevine park next to dove elementary. There was also a community pool and community skateboard ramp there.

We live down the street from there, Park and Dove; my kids go to Southlake schools. When we were looking for a home, I thought, WOW! the kids can ride their bikes to school (to Dove Elem), but our subdivision is part of Carroll ISD.

They have a wheelchair friendly playplace now, pool still there. Just put in a sprinkler park next to pool. The big water tower is still there!
