Should be an interesting year for SBC. Definitely see a year of SBC parity, with a race to the top by 3-4 teams. I put Troy as the over-hyped team because of the new DC. Can't wait for the Troy smack talk to begin (no sarcasm).

UNT isn't in the conference in 2013

Thanks, didn't realize they were leaving that early. Appreciate you pointing that out directly, unlike our former moderator MTPiKapp.

They(along with FIU) announced their departure last year and their "2012 farewell tour" was a popular topic all year.

I believe Georgia State will be in the same position that USA was this year, playing a full schedule but ineligible for championship or postseason play.

I believe Georgia State will be in the same position that USA was this year, playing a full schedule but ineligible for championship or postseason play.

But I think they still get considered into conference standings like USA was this year.

As for the North Texas as a sleeper situation, I do kinda see his point. I don't think UNT needs to be in the conference in order to be considered a sleeper, they've been a sleeper since 2006. Their so much of a sleeper they can be a sleeper in multiple conferences at this point.

As for my real opinions.
1. Conference Champion: Louisiana
2. Conference Sleeper: Troy
3. Team at the Bottom of Conference Standings: Georgia State
3. Most Over-Hyped Team Going Into 2013: WKU
4. Most Likely to Announce Departure From SBC in 2013: WKU
5. Most Likely Addition to SBC: Georgia Southern
6. Number of Bowl Eligible Teams: 5
7. Most Likely to Beat a Top 25 Team in Regular Season: Louisiana (K-State could be in an upset situation losing 30 seniors)
8. SBC Coach of the Year: Mark Hudspeth
9. SBC Player of the Year: Kolton Browning (should be, he'll be the MVP of his team, I think they'll finish with a worse record than this year, but still bowl eligible and he will be the biggest reason.)

Troy could also "upset" Ole miss and Miss State. Those are our 2 biggest games next year.

RE: The Official Predict Next Football Season Thread - Not Too Early Edition
In regards to WKU's performance next year, we will really have to wait and see how the first two or three OOC games for us go before I will personally make a definite, final prediction. Petrino could immediately get WKU into title contention or the different offense will make a difficult transition for the players.

However, even based on lack of evidence, I'll post my predictions anyway.

1. Conference Champion: Tie (Louisiana-Lafayette and Western Kentucky University)
2. Conference Sleeper: South Alabama
3. Team at the Bottom of Conference Standings: Georgia State
3. Most Over-Hyped Team Going Into 2013: Western Kentucky University (Because the hype is already a little much right now, though it may turn out to be justified)
4. Most Likely to Announce Departure From SBC in 2013: Western Kentucky University
5. Most Likely Addition to SBC: Appalachian State
6. Number of Bowl Eligible Teams: 3
7. Most Likely to Beat a Top 25 Team in Regular Season: Louisiana-Monroe
8. SBC Coach of the Year: Bobby Petrino
9. SBC Player of the Year: James Mauro

Only two teams play teams that will likely be ranked and that's ULL and ULM.

Alright. I only put stAte because they just beat a #25 team. I can see ULM pulling one off given their recent victories.

Read the thread...it has already been asked and confirmed that he was a junior this year.

No, either he or Andrews will be Sun Belt Pre-Season Player of the Year.

Browning was a Junior.. but I don't see ULM getting to 8 wins again this year. They could still win 6 in conference, though. Bret Leonards is gone, and their defense will not be any better next year. Also, look for SBC teams with good receiver corps to take a page out of Ohio's book and run a lot of packages against ULM that force man coverage and attack vertically more than conference foes did this year. If the Warhawks DO win 8, it will be because Browning earned POY honors.

WKU could be either over or under hyped. It is impossible to know whether the existing players will be able to successfully adapt to Petrino's system. Cajuns could also be overhyped for the same reasons they should be preseason favorites. Losing both starting OT and both starting cornerbacks could have a bigger impact than most people think.

Preseason favorite should be the Cajuns. Bringing back most of the team on both sides of the ball, and finished strong.

ASU loses Aplin and most of their receivers, and changes coaches, if not systems. Still not ruling the Red Wolves out, but they won't be favorites preseason.
Darkhorse will be Troy. The new DC may make enough difference to enable the Trojans to outscore folks, and they will be potent offensively.

USA is another potential darkhorse. They were in nearly every game this year, and should be improved.
This was ASUs rebuilding year.

While it's true that stAte has less to replace in 2013 than in 2012 - Aplin is a hell of a guy to have to replace.

O Line will be better. WRs will still be good. RBs will be better.

LBs will still be Good. DBs will be better. DLine might be a problem, but love Carrethers and Stone.

Punter cannot be worse.

QB will be worse - the question is how much and how long.

Worse doesn't mean not good enough to win. A new qb will emerge we have plenty on the roster and some that are very athletic and some that are really accurate harsin will have plenty of options? plus Harsin is a Qb guy..look for the jc kid or Zach Davis to have a break out spring!

The running game and defense returning will soften the Qb loss!

I fully expect 8 to 9 wins and at least in contention to win the conference tittle
