He is hiding behind a written press release. Josh had to find out that Bowen had changed his mind from a phone call from Parrish. That's piss poor. Apparently he changed his mind on Josh without, you know, telling Josh.

UPDATE: When Calkins called Bowen to ask him about this Bowen had Boob Winn return the call. Wow, he's got a pair alright....03-lmfao

Yeah...your boss...that makes 1/4th what you do. Bowen just showed his lack of class and leadership. What a buffoon.

Bowen better figure out quick that the money people around the program won't stand for him dissing the BB program and undercutting our HC's.

If it hits the fan, even a struggling CJP will have more support that an AD who refuses show respect for tiger BB or to show even a basic understanding of PR.

We want winning football, but not like this.

So far he's done nothing but alienate key people and get caught with his pants down in conf realignment and have basically NO plan to get us in a conference.

Josh could just buy out Bowens contract and send the "little man syndrom" AD back

Maybe the coach in the first place shouldn't be spitting out who we are playing or not and leave that up to the AD and just tell the fans he will play anyone anywhere.

Oh I forgot we have a coach that wants to play Lipscomb 31 times

The merits of Josh's scheduling have nothing to do with whether Bowen is in the wrong here. It is possible both for Josh to be wrong about scheduling and for Bowen to have needlessly undercut the coach of what still remains the cash cow at this school, about a matter which should be the coach's decision (right or wrong) at a school that thinks of itself as having a big time program, and doing it in such a way that will make it more difficult to hire a new coach if and when Josh leaves, under whatever circumstances.

You REALLY don't think they sat down and talked about it? The AD is the boss...it takes 5 mins..."josh, UT offered us a football series, so I decided to play the basketball series...good luck in Knoxville"

You realize they have postponed a game that they owe us from 2004 to 2017 right? But we should take them at their word and put a new contract in place so we can get...what? Another game (or games) that they postpone because they feel like it? Just something to think about...

Not at all. We should schedule them home in football the same year as away in basketball and alternate each season. They push back the football game here, we push back the basketball game there the same year.

Away games in basketball aren't nearly as hard to schedule, especially with decent opponents when you aren't asking for a return game and would have a several months to get it done.

There is no trust involved. Strait up quid pro quo.

His boss made a business decision based on the overall good of the athletic program...not just Josh or basketball.

Your boss tells you to do something...you do it...that's why he's the boss.

Honestly, Josh shouldn't have been running his mouth off...he's not Cal...he doesn't have the university by the short and curlys

Really, that is my take on it. Did Bowen tell Josh to go out and announce the conclusion of the UT series and that he would never play them again as long as he was head coach and had anything to do with the scheduling? I seriously doubt it.

Once again Josh should have learned after the Ole Miss incident to not go out and say something that might change.

Or maybe, juuuuust maybe in both instances, Josh had spoken with his boss, and he was told they were on the same page. So when the media approaches him, he relays what he & his boss talked about--both times insisting they were on the same page. When actually, the AD had not given up on scheduling said opponents and instead didnt fully clue Josh in. My point is, we werent there. We dont know for 100% fact what was said, or how things went down. But what I do know, is that Josh isnt that guy thats going to shoot his mouth off in front of a bunch of media and make himself look like a moron...twice!

So clearly, something is being miscommunicated or not communicated at all. And ultimately, that is Bowen's job as the guy in charge. Ive heard from numerous people that he isnt very personable and that he doesnt care to deal with the PR side of things--thats a problem.

No telling what went on behind the scenes.
We could say Bowen and UT AD couldnt work out a deal, Bowen said no go. Pastner ran out to tell the media his relief in no more UT ever, which is what I am saying he shouldnt have done, especially in the decisive way that he did. UT AD calls Bowen back, relents on something that was a must-have for Bowen and then they are back to negotiating. Happens ALL the time in the business world.

Pastner has always been so quick to be so nice about other teams and programs. What happened to his usual "UT is a terrific program with a terrific coach and unfortunately the series isnt being renewed" kind of statement? Instead of "As long as I am head coach and have something to do with scheduling we will not be playing UT." kind of statement.

Either way you can blame both sides. Pastner needs to get back to worrying about coaching his team and talking about basketball. Bowen needs to communicate much better.

i agree.

And I have no problem with any of that. Except they currently still owe us a football game. If they wanna buy that game out, then schedule away. I just dont see how its a good business decision to enter into a new contract with them when the previous contract was never fulfilled. But maybe thats just me.

Ah, but here's a little secret just for this board... get ready...

WE HAVE NOT ENTERED INTO ANY AGREEMENT TO PLAY UT IN BASKETBALL.

People are in such a tizzy over the IDEA that maybe Bowen went behind Pastner's back and scheduled UT, that they ASSUME HE DID.

He's only been in talks with the UT AD, which likely means simply listening to what the guy had to say. "Talks" can be one phone call or 100. But our "intelligent fan base" flips it's collective sh.t every time Calkins tweets, so it's no surprise this board is in a full on meltdown over this.

Oh, and BWJ is laughing at all of you right now.

aaaand heres a little secret for you..

If youre going to respond to things that I have said, maybe make the response relevant to me. Im not in any kind of tizzy about anything related to a schedule. I laid out my opinion, why I have it, and I even agreed with you when you mentioned how you would schedule it. The only unresolved issue I see is that one game theyve pushed back for 13 years. Also, by their own admission Bowen and Hart both said they have had "multiple conversations" this week about renewing the series so anyone thats followed the stories today and is upset about how its being handled kiiiiiiinda has a right to that opinion I think.

My issue is that for the second time in 6 months our BB coach & his boss, our AD, are not on the same page & our coach once again looks like a moron. Bad PR is never a good thing.

Anyway, we can agree to disagree or whatever. Im not willing to argue or deal with condescending statements from you, or anyone else in regards to my opinion.

So 04-cheers

Move along, nothing to see here folks. Two very competent, highly motivated guys learning on the job. Did anyone really believe the guy replacing Cal and the guy replacing RC would not make a few missteps? Lets concentrate on beating Tennessee today and the tomorrow stuff will take care of itself.
