No one at MT is jealous of Western. Your basketball history is noteworthy. We have always been a football-focused school. Basketball plays second fiddle at MT, so there's nothing for our fans to be jealous of unless they just don't like football. Our most successful programs are Track and Baseball.
You sure? This whole bowl season by some MTSU fans were spent taking stabs at us in bowl game and losing the way we did..That screams just a little jealousy to me...Took us 4 seasons to make bowl game, how many for MTSU? Not bad for a basketball school!
We were 8-3 our first full season of D1 football. We got snubbed that year too.
Not to be argumentative...just curious. Were you eligible that year for a Bowl.....i.e. number of FBS vs FCS games, etc.? Come to think of it, at that time it was still 1A vs 1AA, I think.
Yes, there were less bowls back then and the Sun Belt only had one tie in that went to the conference champion. North Texas won the conference and went to the New Orleans bowl with a losing record (5-7).

It wasn't our first full year it was our third. I'm pretty sure 1999 and 2000 we were full fledged FBS it just looks like we were transitioning because of how much difficulty we had scheduling as an Indy. I do not believe the transition process existed the way it does today.
In 2001, we were definitely eligible. Troy was the only FCS team we played and we went 8-3, we were snubbed because the Sun Belt only had one bowl tie and it went to North Texas since we were co-champions and they won the head to head, despite the fact that they went 5-6.

Cool. I wasn't sure which year that was.

They were 5-6 when they went. We tied for the conference but they beat us head 2 head. The divisions were the same they just called them AA instead of FCS. Yes we were eligible but as stated the belt only had the one tie in, fewer bowls and no back ups. Could have went to boise but that is for another thread another day.
