Not at all. He's a pure political animal. Whether or not to like him depends on whether he's spread a little pork your way.

The Democrats got wiped out in the congressional midterms of 1994 (Tuesday, November 8th), and Shelby announced his party-switch the very next day (Wednesday, November 9th). So he was continuously a part of the majority-party from the time of his election to the US House in November 1978 until Senator Jeffords switched away from the GOP in May 2001.

That's funny, actually. The economy was doing great under Clinton, with a Republican Congress. Who do they credit? Clinton. Now it's doing sh*tty under Obama. Who do they blame? A republican minority. Partisanship. It's what's for dinner.
