According to Ken Pomeroy's web page, UAB's adjusted tempo is ranked 13th in the country. North Carolina is 2nd. UAB's adjusted tempo far exceeds any other team in C-USA and would be second in the ACC. Houston's adjusted tempo is 2nd in C-USA, and they are 76th nationally.
Tempo is calculated as FGA-OR+TO+0.475xFTA
That's field goals attempted minus offensive rebounds, plus turnovers, plus 0.475 times free throw attempts. The adjusted part takes into account the quality of the opposing defenses, the site of each game, and when each game was played (recent games get more weight).
Now if you want to compare this team's tempo with the XCMA era, UAB finished 3rd in the country in adjusted tempo in 2003, finished 24th in 2004, and finished 29th in 2005.
Last year, XCMD's last year at UAB, UAB's adjusted tempo finished 319th in the country. UAB finished 315th in 2011 and 254th in 2010.
Haase's style of basketball is one of fast tempo. The team is very aggressive offensively. It's much more entertaining than the past five years of UAB basketball.
