Actually, just a year and a half. #2 is next Christmas and #3 is summer, '14.

I am a fan of the book, and loved the book. I also went in knowing it would not be a scene by scene recreation of the book as no movie is.

I see now you are right. I had read at on time, the movies would all be released in Decembers.

Saw the movie tonight. Loved it. Also loved the book from wee childhood.

Well ok, could have done without the bunnies-on-amphetamines. And wow, Gandalf and Galadriel have aged. But I did really like the movie.

Can't imagine what extra scenes can be added to the inevitable extended DVD edition.

i am more intrigued by the 3rd movie than the first 2. how they fold in some of the supplimemental and silmarillion material into a bridging story should be interesting
