Tom Izzo played North Carolina on an aircraft carrier....he's not going to be too worried about playing in front of anyone in BG.
So far as the University of Detroit goes...they were horrid a few years ago, but they've been solid to good the last few years. Besides, it's all about marketing and $$$ these days. Looking at the concept of that league the metro Detroit market is a nice link between the eastern schools and the Chicago/Milwaukee markets covered by DePaul and Marquette.

There's nothing particularly scary about playing in front of BGSU fans that he would be inclined to try to avoid. I think you're just looking for reasons to dislike him...and that story doesn't make any sense.
Have you checked his students' final exam schedules perhaps? He may not have wanted his students to fail their exams (he may need them later).
Believe it or not, but he did not want to play this game while BGSU was in session (extremely reliable source, even more so than factman).
Don't have to look for a reason to dislike him. He's not BGSU, therefore I don't like him.
