People are going to look at his age and call him inexpierenced, but he's not that inexpierenced. He became NIU's WR coach when he was like 25. Been coaching for a long time. Coached in the NFL. He's more expierenced than the guy we just hired (Carey).

Fair enough.

Now go kick some Seminole ass.

Ok, for those WMU fans who want to complain about Fleck's lack of experience...consider the following:

Rod Carey, the newly minted NIU coach, has the following:

2 years at NIU, 1 as the OL coach, 1 as the OL and OC. Fleck was chosen by Doeren before he promoted Carey

Beyond that, Carey has zero FBS experience as a coach.

Did you Huskie guys look at Fleck when looking to replace Doeren?

No, but the only reason because of that is because we named him OC last year when Canada left and he left after 1 day to go to the NFL. If he doesn't do that, Fleck would be coaching NIU in the Orange Bowl. He kind of burned his bridge at NIU because of that. Doeren was not happy.

When Doeren got the job two years ago, it was believed Fleck and DD were the two finalists.

I understand it's a little different because Fleck was kind of the golden boy at NIU so his lack of expierence may have been overlooked, but this isn't as out of left field as some of you may think.

Right, I forgot about the 1-day job. That can make people a little leery about your reliability.

By my calculations, Fleck will be the youngest NCAA FBS coach.

For the record, all of our players love Fleck and loved it when he was named OC last year. A lot of them wanted him to be named head coach when Doeren was hired too.

The one day thing was weird, but I'm not sure if we know the true story behind that. I'm not sure him and Doeren could work in the same room together. They are both very polarizing coaches.

Speaking of calculations who is the oldest coach in the West now? Is it Enos? There can't be a coach over 43 in the entire division.

Very surprised they hired someone without experience at least as a coordinator. It's not like WMU is a complete rebuilding job, I would think they would have had some choices for HC.

Fleck is certainly energetic and seems smart; have no idea whether he will be a good coach or not. But then, you rarely really know.

Had Hazell ever had coordinating expiernce before? Completely overrated, IMO. Coaches are born, not developed.

I just hope Kathy B knows the story behind it. I hope that was a question that was asked...

It sounds like his resignation at NIU was due to his relationship with Schiano. And within the last 10 months, he came to the conclusion that he made a horrible mistake going to the NFL. Unfortunately he's had to deal with the realization that he burned the bridge with his alma mater.

I'm sure he killed his interview. He'll win you over at the press conference. Will it transfer to sucess? Well, we'll see. I hope not (at least not too much).

I doubt he thought he made a mistake going to the NFL as much as he wants to be a head coach. Knowing he torched his bridge at NIU, he jumped at the first chance he got.

I suppose you're right, if you're a head coach and not playcalling, maybe that experience is just a "nice to have". His rah-rah attitude will probably help as HC. And he does have that 1 day of experience at NIU!

I really believe college coaching is really dependent on motivating 18-22 year olds. Whoever does it the best, usually wins.
