Hilltopper fans are so giddy about this hire and so accepting of Petrino in spite of his transgressions. This coming from the fan base that railed on the Cajuns for giving Michael Southall a reprieve.

RE: Honestly...
I wouldn't go so far as to call him a scumbag or sleazebag, but I don't think I could get over the thought of him representing my University in a recruit's living room. His image needs some major rehabbing first.

RE: Honestly...
Clinton aside, we're talking football. Football that has become more important in our culture than most everything you can think of.
Morals and scruples have been set aside. What people do wrong and our levels of outrage have become skewed. While I don't condone affairs, etc. The NFL is a prime example:
Plaxico Burress - 3 yrs for concealed handgun & shooting himself
Michael Vick - dog fighting, 18 months in jail + 18 months house arrest.
Dante Stallworth - DUI manslaughter? 30 days.
As long as the majority is less outraged by things they should be appalled by it won't matter as long as the game goes on.

I don't know anyone who would defend a rapist with a crap point like that. I was going off the assumption that we are talking about a man who quit a job and cheated on his wife. Am I incorrect?

RE: Honestly...
To the WKU fans,
You all made the best football hire of the season hands down. Now after that you are in bed with the devil and no amount of this one did the same, or Vick was not there for the Falcons, will change this man. Maybe his fingers are still smarting and he will behave for a while.
He drips of sleaze, sure other coaches do similar things, but the key is similar, he takes sleaze to a new level. Embrace him for what he is, a darned good football coach who will leave your program better than he found it. It is silly to try and pawn him off as just unlucky enough to get caught.

1 why is Clinton one of the most popular POTUS of all time?
2. How many people on this board would take nick saban? If I remember right he left lsu for dolphins then went to Alabama.
Also without any baggage how many coaches in America would you take over petrino? Remember no baggage. I only count on both hands. And we are paying him 250 k a year if he leaves after year 2.
He exposed his employer to multiple high dollar lawsuits by promoting his girlfriend over more qualified applicants.

RE: Honestly...
AJ's point that morality in this sense is relative. Some people will think petrino is scum, some wont. It was a hyperbole but his point is a valid one.

The petrino issue is not abou morality it's about the legal liability he exposed his employer to

It undoubtedly escaped you.
The point is that you can't justify bad behavior by pointing out that someone else has done something worse.
Again, I'm not saying that this was a bad hire but those who want to vilify him have plenty of ammunition.

Please try and keep up.
It is apparent now that you misunderstood me.
What I am saying is that are people on here who are acting as if he is a child rapist when in the real world there are people here who probably have made the same mistakes or know people who have as well and I highly doubt that would so easily call themselves or their friend or someone they may actually know a scum bag. Let us quit acting as if he is the *** **** antichrist and instead see that he is a human being that has made mistakes.
You want to say he is a risky hire then fine, I don't dispute that fact. You want to degrade him and act is if you know this man's inner workings then you are doing nothing but making yourselves look like fools who make conclusions about people based on small pieces of information about their lives.
If you're cool with that then go right ahead. I wasnt justifying anything the man has done. Did not one single time. No need to fill me in on obvious facts such as "people have different opinions". Thanks so much for that golden nugget of info.

RE: Honestly...
No WKU fan or student is justifying Petrino's past actions or making excuses for him. The man made bad decisions. Decisions that harmed him, his family and his teams.
That being said, he has been away from the thing he loves, which is coaching, for nearly a year. We hope that this and the recent scandal have caused some sincere regret in him and a true desire to get back into what he loves.
Kentucky is his home state and it made sense for him to come to WKU. I personally can not wait to see what the man can do with this football team. He seemed genuinely confidant he could get the team into the Top 25 or even a BCS game in a couple year's time and that gets me excited.
Does he deserve another chance? It's debatable. I think that this move is a great one for Todd Stewart. In order for Petrino to even have a prayer at moving to a larger school, he has to rebuild his image as a good, hard working coach. He needs to keep his nose clean to do it. So I don't think he will embarrass the school because he will be on his best behavior.
