stAte snubbed in Arkansas Interview

Quote:With as much success as you had at Wisconsin, why the SEC, why Arkansas and why now?
BB: Arkansas is very intriguing to me because it is the only show in the state. Obviously, without a professional team and to have the only Division I football team playing at the level that it's at, it kind of draws unified support throughout the whole state. When you've got that, it's something special. Obviously, there are a lot of good schools across the country, but there aren't very many of them that have the one show.
Oof. Maybe he won't see you coming?

Try to schedule a game with him while he still thinks you guys are FCS. He will never know what hit him.

I really think he thought he was taking the ASU job. How else to explain "only Division I football team playing at the level that it's at"? Bowl game, beating ULM...

Do football coaches and politicians go to the same school of ignorance?

That's a good sign for you guys. How is this guy going to recruit in a state when he doesn't even know who he is recruiting against???
Good hire ArKansas, real intelligent guy you got there. Either that or he is from the Steve Spurrier school of taking shots at other instate schools.[/align]

People are as ignorant as they want to be.
104.9 The Horn is the local Austin (read UT) sports talk radio (ESPN affiliate)
On Weds they mad a statement about UTSA goinf FBS and TXST looking ot move up on their coat tails.
I got on their Facebook page and made the statement TXST has been DI since 1987. They shot back, not in football, that didn't happen until this year.
I came back with:
No it didn't, FCS is DI football. If you mean FBS, then yes but both are DI. If you want to get technical, UTSA is FCS transitional (TXST is FBS transitional) so they (UTSA) aren't FBS yet and by your own defintion, not DI.
Not quite the same and I know most FBS fans don't consider FCS as DI (even if it is) but you get the idea. If they don't care to know, they won't bother to find out.

Whether anyone wants to admit it or not, ASU doesn't have a shot at a player unless Arkansas passes on him. The same is true for Tech and ULL when it comes to us recruiting against LSU. Les Miles doesn't disrespect us only because he doesn't want to tick off our representatives in the legislature. LSU wouldn't tolerate its purse strings being threatened because of a stupid football coach saying something stupid.

RE: stAte snubbed in Arkansas Interview
Clearly you do not understand the first thing about purse strings when it comes to LSU, or LTU, or any school. In Louisiana higher education does not matter, period, end of conversation. Football teams, matter. State legislature approves everything LSU wants about football but not academics, state legislature approves everything needed to retain Saints, and Hornets, not academics. LSU is not worried about what LTU, or the ULS has to say about education they get their share first, then we fight for the reminder, and it is all by formula.
Point is Les is a better person than most think. He is actually a lot smarter as well, plays the victim to the max, and protects his players.
Nobody on this board needs your sage advise about recruiting, we know that with rare exception the dominant AQ school has it's way with recruits in it's respective state, but somehow LTU got the Arkansas Mr. Football as it's running back last year, so I guess every now and then one gets taken.

For the most part, you're right. However, ASU has won several recruiting battles in the past against Arkansas. Jonathan Adams and Antonio Warren are two who instantly come to mind.
Adams narrowed his choices to ASU, Arkansas and Alabama, before signing with Arkansas State. Warren had caps from ASU, Arkansas and Ole Miss in front of him on signing day, when he picked up the Arkansas State cap and placed it on his head.
It's rare, but occasionally stAte does have a shot and signs it's target.
