I realize honor and decency are on short supply in college athletics but I am disappointed that MTSU of all programs so desperately desires to harm the schools it is leaving by forcing us to choose between an additional money game or a possible second FCS game just so you can hit the road.

This is such a contrast from the program I've come to know that I cannot adequately convey my disappointment.

Oh, please! If was Ark State in our position, you would want to be gone as soon as you could as well. No team wants to play the "lame duck" year if they don't have to.

This is my first post here after lurking for a while. Usually enjoy just reading, but I just can't stand the my-crap-don't-stink attitude of some of these posters any more.

There is no way on earth ASU would ever leave the league early. If you think we would, you dont know us that well.

right...

Actually, we didn't sign on. We abstained. It's not like our intentions with C-USA were sort of black ops mission.

Further, the President intended to stay through the lame duck season. If you didn't notice the talk about leaving early didn't even become a discussion point until how things played out with the bowl fiasco. Whatever you've been told (or what you think happened), our AD feels Benson lied to him and with that trust broken he no longer wants to continue that relationship. It's a fair point. It's not good for us. Not good for any of you.

But if you want to talk about disappointing, the one person who is most respected on this board continually trying to paint MT as the bad apple is extremely disappointing. We - as a university - have done everything this effing league has asked us to do some times even at our own detriment for the betterment of the league. We get screwed a bit, take exception to it and suddenly everything we have done and been before is erased?

Likewise, my typed letters cannot convey how utterly despondent I am that you have elected to foster bitterness and hatred in this way. You're a professional. You're better than that. And I hope you'll take some time to reconsider your tone with respect to this situation and toward MT.

Regards.

Quit acting like a bad apple.

Dude I like your president, I like your AD. I've visited with both of them and hold them in high regard but you guys are creating controversy that doesn't exist.

You signed on to the year plus notice when you joined, it has always been part of the bylaws.

Perhaps we had it too good with Waters. The current Commissioner has been treating us like a bad apple since the day he took office. So, what difference does it make? He was pushing us toward the door before his seat got warm, so might as well skip school.

Before May there was virtually no penalty for leaving early, so no we did not sign up for that level of financial obligation when we joined. And we didn't vote to increase it either.

For those wondering what the legal defense is there you go.

So was a buy out if you don't give the full year which was doubled once we were listed as a top target. Also we aren't creating controvesy, two institutions giving drastically different accounts of an event is the definition of controversy.
Thing is, interviews with bowl directors seem to back our guys story, which was that benson did the negotiating and did not make a good enough offer. If everybody would quit acting like we owe more than the buyout than this is a non issue. But nope that can't happen instead once respectable posters start implying that we lack honor and decency. BTW The only person that has suggested that we turned down the MB is you despite the fact that the bowl director stated it never happened. So if anybody here is creating controvesy it is you. I understand you feel a need to defend the SBC at all cost but this is laughable. Killing years of credibility .

There is no way we would pay that much for a buyout. Wouldnt be worth it when you could leave for free a year later.

2m a year from CUSA plus a more excited fan base makes the math easy.

From Benson's comments around the entire situation and what has happened over the past few weeks, I don't think the Sun Belt wants us around in 2013 anyway. Whatever happens with the money and schedules, I think we've played our last Sun Belt conference football game.

If FAU and MTSU bolt early, I wonder if any schools would go ahead and pick up a home game against Georgia Southern or App to fill out their schedule?

Maybe but I doubt it. Maybe the ones that don't already have an FCS game scheduled because even in transition you guys would not count as a FBS win. I would imagine NMSU will fill the void even if they don't join the belt.

I think that's going to have to be the case. GaSo and App won't be full members, but they'll probably play near a full conference schedule. Or they'll at least combine to play a full one, to give everyone 8 games.

I think NMSU should be an associate member much like Notre Dame is to the ACC in football. Use them to fill holes for the time being which will help out both the conference and NMSU until they find a home.

I'm thinking MTSU is so pissed that they will pay the $1 million and leave, but FAU will stick around a year so they won't have an exit fee.

That would make sense. Who knows what'll happen, but the recent rumblings about the SBC looking at new members ASAP could give it validity.
