Dude, baseball doesn't drive the bus. The rest of you blog is what Scott Farmer's selling right now.

I know baseball doesn't drive the bus, as you've told me before. However, these schools will be quality additions to that sport as well as football.

Understand, but try selling that to people that have been supporters since our days in the Southland Conference.

My takes
Idaho: considering it would be football only, I just can't stomach us taking a football only school, sorry.
NMSU: would have to be all-sports not just football though I have my reservations as they are waiting on a C-USA invite.
App St. & Ga. So.: bring em on be happy to have em.

RE: My thoughts on the future of the Sun Belt
Trying to sort all of this out......

Currently, without further defections and if MT and FAU find a way to move to CUSA in 2013 rather than 2014, we will only have 8 football teams for 2013 football. I bring this up because the MT fans are screaming to the rafters for a quicker out from the SBC. I understand their frustration but if it happens, here's what we have for 2013.

ArkSt
UL
ULM
WKU
USA
Troy
GaSt
TxSt

We need to stay at 10 or more in order to have the possible 4 or 5 Bowl eligible teams each year but that may not be possible until at least 2015. We may be forced to go ahead and seriously look at NMSU and Idaho. If so, can they move in 2013? FCS schools won't help us until 2015 at the earliest. Are we willing to lose out on extra Bowl games in 2013 and 2014 in order to wait for the FCS teams to transition or do we take FBS schools so that we still get those extra Bowl games in the next 2 years? That's the quandry Benson is in....

Another point... let's say 1 or 2 more leave but stay thru 2013 and MT and FAU stay thru 2013. If we don't add any FBS teams but only go the route of FCS, we'd only have 6 or 7 teams in 2014. Is that feasible? We would be back up to 8-10 by 2015 but 2014 would be a painful year.

We've had rough years before.

Remember this is the SAME football conference that started as second coming of the Big West associate members.

I'll take rough yet stable years over the revolving door the Big East is dealing with right now.

Appalachian State and Georgia Southern should join the Sun Belt since their enrollment with the other schools in the conference are similiar.
