He had 4 fouls in 8 minutes. Two were offensive fouls.

Right. That's why I encompass it all in Belief - confidence, but also commitment to himself, his teammates and the system. I do not see the fire in his eyes. For whatever reason, the light has not gone on with either of them. They are both known for good attitudes, so I suspect getting them going could be contagious and is therefore vital.

Preston Purifoy is simply a model basketball player: a tall guard with physical strength, enormous hops, an outside shot and good court sense. He should be our best player, an all-conference level guy with POY potential. We unleash that dragon and we're looking at 5-1 instead of 3-3.

I just don't have much hope for QT. He was beyond bad for most of last year. This year he's coming off a bad injury, and has started off poorly yet again. I didn't really expect QT to be very good this year, but I am shocked with PP's production. Like everyone else has said, there's no reason he should not be one of our best players. He needs to get it together.

Yes. Purifoy has all-conference ability.

UAB was outplayed, but not outmanned. We were capable of winning this game. Unforced turnovers, long cold stretches (which included some very good looks) and poor play by select veterans doomed us. We need Belief: Belief brings the laser-focused concentration to overcome all of those.

I agree with your assessment in that UAB missed far too many layups, foul shots (first shots of 1&1s) and short jumpers while the game was still in question. Late in the game UAB became more desperate and UNC settled into a groove we couldn't match to pull away. By the end of preconference play, the team should be more efficient in scoring than we saw today.

Looks to me like confidence (Belief) and trying to find his roll in the new system. I think it will click for these guys in February. No one will want to play us in the C-USA tourney which is a far cry from the Davis years.

I hope so. We almost always regressed during the season during the Davis years. Even in the year(s) we got better over the season, we still unexpectedly dive bombed in the conference tourney.

This was a Murry Bartow trend as well. This changed under Anderson. I think Conditioning and having a deep bench with Anderson vs having short benches and poor conditioning (Especially under M. Bartow) played a huge roll in this. This may still hurt us having a shorter bench this season. I don't think after this season we will have a short bench again under Haase barring a rash of injuries. Just my opinion.

He did retire Denny Crum though.

Yes he did! UAB beat Louisville, up in Louisville - twice!

That was a pretty bad Louisville team though. That said it was fun to watch.

Blazers hit 1/3 of the shots they missed (& they managed to get some good looks most of the game), they're coming home with "tar on their heels", if you know what I mean. I thought that Rucker and "Pharoah" held their own out there, at least in the first half. Damn, I can't wait for conference play to start...
