It only makes sense if Benson is expecting to lose WKU and another Sun Belt program maybe two.

Idaho could be brought in on 2 year contracts for FB only (like the MAC has with UMass) to allow the SB to add some FCS schools (which would take some time to get up to speed), especially if the Belt loses another school.

After two years, Idaho would know if a) they have a shot at the MWC (only reason they are staying FBS), or b) go to FCS Big Sky, where they have the rest of their sports.

Idaho wouldn't be a full member, under any circumstance.

But as a bridge to get the Belt to a more stable future, they are already FBS.

and would idaho be okay with being "used" for two years on a contract situation, just so the sbc has time to move up regional fcs teams?

Probably. They are in a holding pattern right now.

They want in the MWC. No chance of that until the Big East situation is stablized. They are waiting until then. This would give them 4 home games a year until then.

Idaho has no choice if they want to stay FBS. 2 year contract buys them more time.

I'd be very surprised if Idaho was called to the Belt. We don't need them at this point. Georgia Southern gets us to 8 (even if WKU gets pinched). NMSU or Appy gets us to 9 or 10.

Ga St is transitional, so there are just 7 FBS members, does this hurt NCAA requirments? Especially if WKU bails.

If it does, it may force NMSU inclusion, and if the Presidents dont want 12, could close the door on one of App/GSU.

Actually, no I am not. Our administration is small time, they will do everything they can to keep us where we are currently. Plus it's not like FIU, MTSU, FAU, UNT, LA TECH or USM will vote us in. I expect stAte and WKU to get the call.

I also heard that Louisiana politics have a huge play in it as well. Rumors are that ULM and Louisiana must be a package deal. With North LA picking up more political stroke it could be a play by ULM to prevent separation or La Tech to keep the separation.

Not liking this move for the Belt if true..

Pardon me for getting into this conversation but I just want to say something. If the Sunbelt adds Idaho and New Mexico State over App State and JMU (Assuming both are willing to move up) then the commissioner is a full blown idiot.

That is all.

I'm afraid that was established a long time ago.

Sounds like App has another conference on the hook if they are not being discussed with that group.

If that is the case, the Benson and the Sun Belt Presidents blew it big time by not adding Ga Southern and App last Spring. Their stubborness to be associated with FCS may cost them dearly. They let themselves be a poor little bunny in the corner of the room while the wolf (CUSA) waited for dinner when they were hungry. Not to mention that at the end of the day, all MTSU and FAU amounted to were spies in the room that hurt the SB. Catering to MTSU and FAU's wishes to keep them were ultimately no different than catering to the wishes of the CUSA commissioner.

Poor job by Benson interpreting the reality that CUSA could easily pounce at any time. They should have pushed hard for an exit fee. Those that vote against it essentially say they will leave. At that point, you don't cater to their wishes and plan for contingencies.

The only thing unusual about that scenario is the fact that App State is quiet. Charlie Cobb is known for his daily communication with his fan base/donors. JMU and Delaware are notoriously quiet (probably the two quietest D1 football teams in the country). The MAC is the quietest conference in the country, nothing special there.

I can tell you Charlie was pretty quiet this past summer and he had NADA to show for it. Instead he drummed out a "hey we kinda tried" email to all of us.

I will however say that things are very unusually quiet RIGHT now, but that could have to do with the fact we play Illinois State at home for the first round of the FCS playoffs on Saturday. No need to draw any attention that hasn't already been done off of that. Would be really nice to ride into the FCS sunset with title number four.
