If Raven Greene keeps playing at the level he is for the Packers he can probably expect a pretty sizable contract as well.

Perhaps, if Jimmy plays in the league long enough. A certain former JMU player who made a nice career at LB for the Bills and Steelers has already made gifts to JMU totaling more than $250k. 04-cheers

RE: Newest Conference Rumor
I have read on here through the years things like when JMU does X, my donations will go up or I will start giving when JMU does X. I don’t know what other fanbases say on their websites because I only read ours. Is gifting always tied to the school doing things the way each individual donor wants things to be done?

What I know is gifting back to JMU has always been an issue. JMU alums just don’t do it as much as alums at many other schools do.

FCS football has been a really good product until last year. The playoffs were always filled with challenging games. There were several close regular season games too. Last year was the first year where I felt the quality of play really dropped overall. JMU and NDSU pretty much walked through the playoffs to Frisco. If this is a downward trend, then yes the quality of FCS is losing its entertainment value.

I feel like a broken record but JMU, App, Marshall, ODU and ECU ought to be spending a lot of energy figuring out how they can come together under one conference.

That would be great.

I could see that as successful in football as CAA basketball was 10-15 years ago.

Do you think that is one step process?

I could be way off here but I’d imagine the average alumni is pretty oblivious to what is talked about on here. This has been said a million times so I’m not adding much here but there’s always been the “issue” of a large portion of the alumni base is teachers and nurses because those programs are so good. Not saying they don’t donate but probably not as much towards athletics. I don’t want to beat the drum here but I do agree that FBS would energize the young, male, alumni base to donate more towards athletics. The admin definitely realizes that but there are other factors people have talked about that play a role.

I don’t think the donors are the roadblock. Donors could make it easier. Being invited into a conference with ECU, ODU, Marshall, and ASU would certainly make it easier.

But what if we don’t get everything easy?

Does anyone think we don’t already spend more than many FBS programs?

It might not be easy, or be the perfect fit, but I think financially it could be done if the administration felt it was beneficial to move to FBS.

I honestly don’t ever see JMU being with the big boys. The P5 is pretty much set as big boy football. What I would like to see is more entertaining football. Watching 80-7 wins is pretty boring.

Be careful what you wish for---we can also make games more competitive against FCS by getting worse, not everyone else getting better.

What we have seen more of this year is that G5 football, even in its current form, can definitely be competitive and can create some games with meaning. This is the year--particularly with playing in the spring (at best), and losing so many of the top-tier to transfers--where FCS really started to distance itself (in a negative way) from G5. Not sure how or when that gets back to a more normal place.
