doesnt matter whether we had a shot at the big east or not, We are committed to suckage.
What he's basically saying is, doesn't matter if we're committed to CUSA or not, we don't have any other options.
I get the feeling that the perception is that UAB is staying true to a strong conference, in CUSA. But in reality, the bottom level teams are just moving up to CUSA, which in turn, just makes CUSA the newest bottom level league.

This isnt directed at you or anything. I think our obsession with how much power we have and lack because of the board of trustees is getting ridiculous. To come out and say we are committed to C-USA erases any chance of any offers from another conference to welcome us in. How much power does the SOBs at UAT hold over our program? No we cant have a stadium, but is it really up to them to tell which conference we can be in? If you think its hard to recruit to UAB now without a stadium in C-USA, just wait and see how bad it gets when we add all these other crappy teams. We remain where we are because it remains acceptable to us.

Now is tolerable. But I'm pretty worried about later.
Exactly. We're in purgatory right now, we need to get out before it turns into hell.

I know I'm going to get blasted for this, but we actually remain where we are because we are consistently terrible at football. So, indirectly, you're correct. As long as the BOT has us hamstrung, we're not going to be attractive to anyone.

Right. Whats bad is that, football is still unattractive to our own fan base. Not that there has been a reason for that to change.

Fine, I'll say it:
Drop football and beg the A10 or something on our hands and knees.

Its not that we are considering that option, but how often do we here anything about anybody in our athletic department "trying" to improve our football program besides our players and coaches. We hardly ever hear anything from Mackin related to our football program. Is he trying? Nobody wants to be stuck in Sunbelt 2.0.

What was Mackin suppose to say... "I am working my butt off to leave this pitiful league." He said what he had to say. All AD's say they are committed to the conference they are in, until they get an invite to go elsewhere. I bet he has done all he can to get us into BE, but we don't have great facilities, great supports or great success. So all we have to ride on is Basketball Tradition and a good TV Market. When the dust settles, we won't be in the ACC or SEC, so whether we are in the BE or CUSA, really won't matter that much. The future of UAB for the first time is in our hands, we have two coaches that were approved by most fans, now we have to show up, donate and sell the product. The coaches are committed to doing their part.

C*USA is better than the Belt 2.0 or CAA 2.0 (remember, schools are leaving the CAA and Belt for C*USA -3.0). Our only reasonable basketball option is Missouri Valley (MVC) because I expect the A10 to be very unstable once the Big East falls apart. MVC won't help travel significantly, and it would cripple our football options.
Stadium and Football success, or bust.

Ask Charlotte how great they were in the A10. Not a single tourney appearance yet. There is no guarantee of success in another league either.
