What is the financial impact of just going independent? Rice joining the MWC (if they'd even take us) or the Sun Belt or the Southland conferences are options that are not very appealing.

THIS. THIS. THIS.

The problem with this board is it's just an intellectual circle-j**k sometimes, and the opinions expressed here need to be made public.

I know that posters on this board have sent personal emails and the like, but reaching out to the Thresher would be, IMO, 100 times better than personal emails.

Well, go ahead.

It may be hard to pull off this quickly, but putting something together and getting a number of people to sign off on it would be better than just one random alum.

If I have time I may try and put something together to post on the Parliament for others to "sign off" on.

I'm fairly young (2011 graduate), so I don't know if I can best speak on the history of Rice athletics, but I can give it a shot.

Still better off than the WAC who is adding today a for-profit principally-online Christian school.

Leebron has been equally inconspicuous and conference alignment is really a president-level issue.

That is not a defense of Greenspan who has been a complete disaster.

Plenty of posters here have been eager to taunt UH and SMU for their supposed mistake without even looking one step ahead. I can't say I saw the Tulane move coming, but I was pretty sure from the get-go that the next move would not benefit Rice.

We should not look down our noses at the Sun Belt because that's about what we deserve.

Consolidated realignment thread
Because it is kind of a headache reading through 3 different posts on current realignment happenings. If I'm the only one annoyed by so many different threads, then all y'all can keep posting in the other threads to your hearts content!

To summarize, Tulane and ECU (football only) are heading to the Big East, while Boise St. and San Diego St. dither in deciding whether to rejoin the Mountain West Conference, or whether to stick in the Big East.

Newest rumor - Rick Greenspan and Rice's whole approach to realignment has been an abject failure so far and an embarrassment to a school with a very rich sports history. We should be like Stanford, instead we are like Tulane. Wait, check that. Worse than Tulane. And UH. And SMU.

What are the # of votes needed to dissolve the conference?

The departees now equal the # of untouchables.

All we can hope at this point is that RG or Leebron is in contact with the MWC.

Note that the MWC currently has ten members. They are, in theory, keeping two spots open should Boise State and SD State decide to return.

If they do not, I suspect that UTEP and Tulsa are next on the list. That would make 12.

There would be very little reason to go to 13. This will get worse.

Send your email to President Leebron and Greenspan ASAP.

I sent a "WTF are you guys doing?" email.

We've gone from Texas, A&M, TCU to SMU, Houston, Tulsa to Louisiana Tech, UNT, and UTSA. Pathetic.

We need to throw the kitchen sink at them. Pay a huge entry fee, anything to get out of CUSA.

I think the moves made by the Big East today were done to shore up the conference in anticipation of more defections. Boise and SDST have been adamant in their commitment to the Big East, and I don't think they go back to the MWC. MWC may move on, and if we are not included in the next group, we are done.

If someone was willing to post a similar type email to the Parliament, I think it would make a great statement to have the Thresher run it in the Opinions section, ESPECIALLY, if we can get 50+ alumni to sign off on it.

Not only would we be the only Southwest Conference member not in a major conference, we could also be the only C-USA member left out of major college realignment.
