But from a macro perspective this is the league's fault for not having a contingency to deal with this. Why do we let ESPN dictate our entire schedules, move everything around and then not allow for the possibility for having the game exercised on a six day option like they do many other games they televise? That answer is obvious.

Damn good post. ESPN effed us by moving that home game with Miss. State to 10:30 am (or whatever time it was).

11am local for a noon eastern ESPNU kick. Miserable weather.

ESPN does what ESPN does.

They are in the business of collecting subscriber revenue and selling ads. They are NOT in the business of sports except to the extent helps with collecting subscriber revenue and selling ads.

RE: Championship game
Like I said in a previous post, ESPN has rather show rodeo, Div. II semi's, poker, boating, or sailing than show any Sun Belt game on a Saturday..ESPN is the SEC Network....Now if we had a championship game, (which we do not need one imo), ESPNU would show that game on Wed. night starting at 930...This is nothing new as we have been screwed by ESPN for years in basketball as well for a long time with our conf. championship game on a Tues. night at 10 est....Just recently the time changed to a more reasonable time slot for basketball...

And to add to that even when our games are shown on week nights, it becomes a promo for the upcoming top games for the weekend..The announcers have no clue about our players and or even how to pronounce theirs names showing no homework done on part of ESPN or the anncouncers...I know when we played MTSU, there was little said or shown of the actual game ESPNU had on at halftime as all the talking heads were talking about the upcoming big games that weekend...Its pathetic and I feel Sun belt should move on from ESPN, we could find better coverage on Fox Regional, NBC, CBS, Lifetime, HallMark Channel, anything better than what ESPN does for us....

Yep. Some on this board like to tout having the ESPN3 option while criticizing the C-USA TV package, because C-USA is playing on other channels they're not routinely watching on Saturday, but the reality is this is just another example of how ESPN3 is nothing but a convenient way for ESPN to keep you off the airwaves while making it appear as though they're still giving you more time than you would get anywhere else. And laughing at us all the way to the bank while they give us next to nothing. Their return on margin is probably higher on the Sun Belt than it is the SEC. The Sun Belt sold its soul to be on ESPN. I hope everyone enjoyed the three or four games we actually got on the network.

Meanwhile C-USA had about three or four games a week on an actual TV ... in HD mind you with announcers who knew the teams and the players. I watched about dozen C-USA games this year and they weren't talking about the South Carolina-UGA game coming up on Saturday night the whole time.

And again, you're wrong.

On Saturday:

Noon: ESPN NCAAFB Oklahoma vs TCU, ESPN2 NCAAFB CUSA championship game, ESPNU NCAABB Miss St vs Providence

2pm: ESPNU NCAABB Rutgers vs Mississippi

3pm: ESPN College football scoreboard, ESPN2 NCAABB Alabama vs Cincinnati

4pm: ESPNU NCAABB Michigan vs Bradley

4:30pm: MLS Cup final LA Galaxy vs Houston Dynamo

5pm: ESNP2 Villanova vs Vandy

6pm: ESPNU NCAABB UAB vs North Carolina

7pm: ESPN College football scoreboard, ESPN2 NCAAFB Pitt vs USF

8pm: ESPN NCAAFB ACC Championship game, ESPNU NCAABB Arizona vs Texas Tech

10pm: ESPN2 Sportscenter, ESPNU NCAABB San Diego State vs UCLA

Do you see any rodeo? Or poker? Or DII playoffs? Unless you think our defacto championship game should have kicked off at 9pm Jonesboro time there simply wasn't a time slot on any of their main three networks.

Now they certainly could have done us a favor by releasing the rights or figuring out a way to put it on classic or something, but to make it sound like there is some dearth of programming on Saturday is disingenuous. If there was a free three hour time slot on Saturday on any of their big three networks, I'm confident we would have gotten it.

RE: Championship game
Our TV deal needs to include a guaranteed ESPN2/ESPNU conference game in the last week of the season. Given that we don't have a conference title game, we should always have at the minimum a handful of our teams playing in conference games during championship weekend (like the Big East and Big 12). That way, ESPN can select from the remaining games the most important game as it pertains to the conference championship.

Of course, that requires us to actually convince ESPN that this is a good idea.
