They have no money so they're stuck.

They will hit the roof if nothing is done in the next day or so.
I suspect they made a token call to the old OC just to make it look like they were trying something.
We caught hell from them for several years.
Payback time.
What coach would go there anyway outside of a former assistant after what has transpired this year?

People asked that when we canned Callaway.

There's always somebody.

I suspect if they are able to make a change, it will be the former OC that gets the job.

There might not be too many others that will be looked at anyhow.

More interesting might be the stuff going on down to our southeast.

At best, they are the 4th best program in the western division.

And Blazer Related, it is a little awkward that they have a Samford football coach on the search committee.

Johnson has a 4 pm team meeting scheduled today.

It may have been previously scheduled & not something new.

Just keeping him one more week would give us some quality entertainment.

+1, but the 3-9 still doesn't look good, regardless of the "prespective."

I'm just curious, is that a risk a program in shambles would really want to take? A lot of great players make terrible coaches because they aren't able to comprehend why somebody can't do the same things they did as a player. Favre also has a less than impeccable moral record over the years. It would definitely generate interest in the program, but I'm just not sure about the results on the field.

I think they implied Favre being a last resort if all else failed. (Because he would do it for nothing almost)

03-lmfao Thank you for this offering, surely, its' practicality cannot be called into question...Peyton Manning allegedly once "mooned" a female trainer in the locker room during his UT days. His legacy has survived that alleged incident. If he ever decides to go into coaching after his playing days are behind him, I don't think he'll run into any challenges. Nobody's perfect(except Chuck Norris!)03-lmfao.

A lot of former players make damn good coaches, too. (the Harbaughs, Tony Dungy, Mike Ditka, Steve Spurrier, etc.), I'll bet you the ratio is higher for those favorably than not. I could be mistaken. In spite of the horror show we all witnessed this year in Hattiesburg, I actually think this program can be salvaged and can thrive as early as next season, if they make a move for a new coach and soon, if they bring back this clueless guy they hired now, Johnson, then get ready for a "funeral" for Southern Miss football, because it is good as dead if he's brought back next year.

Call me crazy, but if I were AD at Southern Mississippi and could get Brett Favre to be the next head football coach there, I would do so without the slightest hesitation. Hell, if Auburn can even consider entertaining "Ghost Rider" (Petrino) for their current vacancy, then Favre at USM is a no-brainer. 05-stirthepot His presence would not just re-energize the Golden Eagles Football program, but Conference USA Football as a whole.

I'd vote no on Favre. Their QB's already know how to throw into triple coverage.

What made Farve a great football player are 3 things you can't teach. An arm that can throw a football through a cinderblock wall; a pain threshold of a minor superhero; and a riverboat gambler's luck. So unless one of the Farve boys is coming to play for USM, Brett is going to be pretty frustrated as a Head Coach.

I can assure you the number of former players who turn out to be bad coaches, greatly outnumber those who are good coaches.

Common sense tells you that in that generally there are more failures than successes.

There have even been studies that show that superstars don't generally make good coaches because they can't relate to regular players not being able to do what came easily to them.

Ask Houston how Clyde Drexler worked out.

First off, there is a big difference between mooning somebody and taking a picture of your ***** when you are married and sending it to somebody on the staff.(judging by your reaction, I'm assuming this is what you were talking about) I would never hold this one incident against Favre. He has been involved in some other shady crap over the years, and if you have the time, it won't take long to find.(think about the way he got to MN) So, to clarify, I wasn't talking about the sexting incident.

Secondly, I said great players. Jim Harbaugh was a mediocre player, and I don't believe John made the league. Spurrier was a mediocre NFL player. Dungy wasn't anything to write home about. So you have Ditka. I'd say that's more an outlier than a trend. I wasn't saying to keep the ding dong they have at USM, I was saying I'd avoid Favre.

The difference between Petrino and Favre is Petrino is a proven winner as a coach. Favre is nothing other than a great former NFL player at this point. Some guys are simply not made for coaching(Michael Jordan), and I just get the feeling Favre is one of them.
