RE: Big East to Dissolve?
Where would some of these schools go? I could see the small private Catholic schools creating their own league. Perhaps the MAC could pick up some decent basketball schools? Or perhaps some of these schools in the BE would form a new conference with top MAC schools. Interesting developments in the near future.

Not a chance that they dissolve...

1/1,000,000,000 chance that they drop FBall
0/1,000,000,000 that the hoops schools will let go of the conf name`

RE: Big East to Dissolve?
With these super conferences does anyone else think it is going to be hard for the middle teams to recruit? It seems the top teams in the SEC and the Big 10 will always be good. Right now superconferences seem great, but 20 years of the same teams sucking might make some schools wonder what they are doing.

Not to mention football in 20 years might be an entire different game.

They still exist? Temple must be thrilled that they backed into that great situation.

RE: Big East to Dissolve?
The Big East as it is at the moment with the loss of Rutgers is in OK shape.

1) They retain the NJ market for basketball (Seton Hall) while dropping an underperforming men's team.

2) The Big East drops from 17 in men's basketball down to 16. This is another plus in the eyes of the hoops schools.

3) In football, the Big East needs 2 more members to get to 14 for 2015. Now there is room for both BYU and Air Force in the Big East where as before the BE would of needed to move to 16. That didn't have the votes.

The problem though is the BE is going to be looking at more defections. The ACC has signed a TV deal moving forward, a deal that can be adjusted upward or downward depending on membership. The BE has nothing signed at the moment with dubious future value attached.

Swofford appears to be leaning toward making the kill and taking Louisville, UConn and Cincinnati to go to 16 in football, 17 in basketball. The Big East is toast if that happens and that looks to be a 50-50 possibility.

Honestly, that might be a better route for that league to go at this point. The FB and bb schools have conflicting interests and will never agree. The bb schools could form their own league and/or merge with the a10.

Steinbrecher has said he's believes that membership between 12-14 teams is going to be the model for the long haul because when you move beyond that it starts to push the other teams down further in the pecking order.

There has been conversation about Virginia Tech joining the SEC but they are pushing back on that because at 66,000 seats they would have one of the smallest stadiums in the SEC. VT was at 40,000 per game for a long time and has had to put its program on steroids to get it to the level that its at today. They are just a more natural fit in a second tier power conference where its not too competitive.

Its not just the old FB/BB agenda issue that the BE has to deal with. There is now a FB only/all sport divide as well.

The entire TV deal is predicated on the BB schools staying on board and out west Boise/SDSU providing that desirable coast-to-coast quality. Its a like a political compromise that IF all of the required pieces fall into place the BE could pick up a decent 8 million per all sport school TV deal.

The pieces don't all look to be there so the BE ends up DOA. I'm not sure what the fall out would be for the lower conferences but I can't see Memphis, SMU, Houston and UCF going back to CUSA with all the deadwood in those conferences.

LOL! Ironically I'm reading this morning's paper and came across an article "Owls 'thrilled despite record ". In the article their coach is quoted as saying "I couldn't be more thrilled about where our program is headed".

"If we stayed in the MAC, we'd probably have 7, 8 or 9 wins and be going to a bowl game. You have to put your pride down a little bit, but we see a bigger picture. We know we're going to be back in a bowl game".

And that bigger picture is what? Watching all the teams you signed up to play bolt for other conference while your left behind. I really hope the Big East dissolves and/or the basketball schools break away just to watch what Temple does. It is hilarious how so many people still perceive the Big East as the conference it once was and not the conference it currently has become.

Looks like Cinci, Louisville, and UConn are about to move to the ACC.

Smart move by the ACC, as it cushions against FSU and Clemson leaving to the SEC, and cuts off further Big XII expansion while also killing their main competition, the Big East.
