I usually keep quiet when people start trashing C-USA (including some of my fellow fans of SOME of the C-USA schools, and they know who they are), I'm sick of this BS of those of you in the "big-5.5" acting like we shouldn't even be around in college football...

We've had good teams in previous years... Just because we're down this year. Are there teams that have been perennially bad? Yes.. (in fact, the BE just took two of them {and I hate slamming conference mate schools, considering Memphis fans have been probably the "least antagonistic" about these changes.}.

The BE guys were bragging about media markets, well C-USA has those. (Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, Miami, New Orleans, Charlotte, Norfolk/Va-Beach, etc.)
The Big 5 were bragging that they had ranked teams, We've had ranked teams... Maybe not as many, but we've had them (UCF, ECU, USM, Houston)
We've had bad teams... Guess what, so has everyone else.
Teams were bragging about consistent basketball.. We had those (UAB, Memphis, Marshall, USM (for the last few years at least), Charlotte (again, hopefully), ODU).
The ACC and BE brags about their baseball.. we've had that. (USM, Rice, Tulane, Houston)

I'll give you the fan attendance... That one we as fans can't say much about (other than ECU, really... UTSA has been good, I only hope they can keep it up.).

Hell, I don't even rag on the Sun Belt schools as bad as you guys seem to want to step on the C-USA schools... Hell the ONLY thing C-USA fans have had issues with is that (and I'm thinking the MWC should have been griping just as much) we are one of those conferences that the media doesn't even give the time of day to when something good goes our way.

So those of you who feel like slamming my school and my conference... I've got two words for ya.. "F.. off!"
I am a big fan of what USM has done. I just think you guys should be in a conference with ASU, ULL, Troy, etc. instead of UNCC, ODU, FIU, etc.

MWC takes UTEP and Tulsa.

CUSA is left with these 11:
UNCC
ODU
Marshall
UAB
USM
FIU
Tulane
La Tech
Rice
UTSA
North Texas

Would a Sun Belt team consider joining that league?
I wouldn't want to.

Crump, that rant wasn't aimed at you or any fan in particular. It was aimed at those fans who treat any (and all) C-USA schools like they should be thankful that they're just allowed to exist at the D1 level. (and they know who they are, so i'm not going to single any one poster here out).

The way some fans go off, they're acting like we should be "paying" the Big Conferences for the privilege of being allowed in the same sports.

Yea, I don't follow teams because they're in conferences with big media markets. I wanna see good football on the damn football field. I'd rather watch Boise or TCU or La Tech than some mediocre Big 14 school. Which is why I was surprised that CUSA went with startup/FCS schools to replace those they lost. The Big East apparently has the same opinion on that.

Sorry but I have to disagree with you on that. I would much rather put my money on the long-term growth of ODU, FIU and Charlotte over the likes of ASU, ULL and Troy any day. When you start to compare the facilities, location, athletic budget, fan support..... its not even close. We went out and got the best schools available on the market. Very happy to have ODU, Charlotte, La Tech, FIU, San Antonio and North Texas on board.

RE: Who wants to see CUSA destroyed?
This is ironic. Over the last several months, everyone has been concerned about the perceived weakened state of CUSA and its potential irrevelance in college football. Now, it appears that CUSA may be in a position to strengthen itself from the demise of the Big East. I don't see CUSA going anywhere.

Excellent post. I couldn't agree with you more? If we go back 15 or so years, we have Marshall finishing 10th, with an undefeAted season, Tulane with a perfect season, and exceptional work by USM, Tulsa, ECU. (I excluded UCF and UH because they are leaving, but they were every bit as dominant in their "on" years.) And every C-USA fan should be very proud of the year that both LT and ODU are having in their conferences.

We Are a proud, mid major conference, and I think our future looks bright. I wish the BE, MW, SB, and MAC all the success in the world. I hope that every year, some one from the "gang of 5" crashes the party and kicks butt. But I wish that same success for my own conference, first and foremost. All of us C-USA fans should stick together and be proud. All of us "middies". Should do the same.

RE: Who wants to see CUSA destroyed?
You guys act like one lousy year means the end of CUSA. I just dont see that happening. How good was CUSA last year? Arguably the best non-bcs league. This season, we're the worst. Different year, different results. I think CUSA could be every bit as good as the big east now that all the power teams from there are leaving. If Louisville, UConn and Cincy leave then the only reason I would rather have ODU in the NBE is if ECU went because that football rivalry will be great eventually. CUSA will be better than the SunBelt and MAC most seasons and worse some seasons (like this one). The NBE will be better than CUSA some seasons, but not all. Frankly, I think the MWC is better than the NBE now, and if I were Boise I'd stay there without any hesitation. What should happen in my opinion is the Big East, CUSA, Sun Belt, MAC and MWC reshuffle all of their teams and restructure each conference based on geography. The SunBelt, MWC and MAC would stay largely in tact.

Make a NBE consisting of UMASS, Temple, Marshall, Navy, ODU, ECU, Charlotte, MTSU, GSU, UCF, USF and FIU. CUSA should be UAB, SoMiss, Tulsa, Tulane, UTep, UTSA, NTx, Rice, LaTech, Houston, SMU. Boise and SDSU go back to MWC. All good conferences and much more sensible geographically. And we all need the travel savings to compete with the big 4, and we need the regional rivalries to draw fan interest.

UnCC has not played a down of football... You guys added North Texas... u r dead and you don't even know it yet. The Big east is ruined as well....just don't go pretending adding the Monarchs and Roadrunners saved CUSA....
The reality is that every conference other than the B1G, the SEC and PAC 12 have now been force to react to what these 3 conferences have done. Every other league is reconstituting themselves or restocking in order to achieve some type of survival. No conference other than these 3 have made additions that did anything but keep them alive. No offense against the Big 12 additions but I believe all original members would rather have kept together if the secondary stuff could have been addressed other wise. **** rolls down hill. The Big 12, The ACC, the Big East, CUSA, MWC have all done what they were largely forced to do and that's all they did. No one is dead yet (other than the WAC).

Worried about what? C-USA is a dumpster fire, it's not going to get worse, it can't possibly so no reason to worry about anything C-USA does. As for our basketball keep living in the past, at the end of this season a lot of people are going to have a lot of crow to eat.

I am fully aware of our BB history. It has sucked ass. We simply do no have a product to sell to recruits being isolated in the middle of ACC land in a conference that is spread out all over hell's creation. We are installing some infrastructure that will help...but...I don't believe it will be a game changer for us unless we land in a conference that can help us sell the product. The BE and maybe even the A10 could do that.

The reality is ... football pays the bills. It is very hard to grow without the revenue FB brings to the table in ticket sales and TV revenue. You submit that CUSA is going back to it's BB roots?... THIS is why ECU should be worried.

The reality is ... football pays the bills. It is very hard to grow without the revenue FB brings to the table in ticket sales and TV revenue. You submit that CUSA is going back to it's BB roots?... THIS is why ECU should be worried.
Do you really think the EASY EAST Basketball schools will agree on the ECU invite??..I don't..

Then...The members better be ready to slash their athletic budgets and eliminate some Olympic sports.
I think ECU fans are worried because they bring nothing to the Basketball table..

No..and I don't blame them. I think we will get in.. FB only eventually. My hope is we could get our Olympic sports in the A10 replacing Temple. It would be vastly superior to CUSA in BB. It would give us a product to sell recruits and reduce Olympic sports travel costs. We have already shown that if we have a product to sell that our program can improve. Before the BE raided UofL,Marquette,Depaul..ect, our BB program was making strides. I am however totally against going back to the CAA under any circumstance. We can not recruit in the CAA and we would be better off just dealing with the CUSA mess and moving on.

ECU in the BE for football and A10 for Olympic sports would be Ok. I would hope that as the BB program improves that the BE would consider us for all sports later on.
