Sadly, as in most years, a majority of biggest games were on the road this season for CUSA teams:
at Ohio State: UCF and UAB
at Iowa State: Tulsa
at Arkansas: Tulsa
at UCLA: Houston
at West Virginia: Marshall
CUSA had some big non-conf wins last year...as most of the top CUSA teams in 2011 had 5th year QB's (Tulsa, USM, ECU...Houston had a 6th year QB).
With both Houston and USM losing their head coaches this past winter and a lot of their top Asst Coaches, along with their 5th/6th year QB's...its been a huge rebuilding year for both.
Also, last year, a .7-6 CUSA team, Marshall, won on the ROAD at Big East Conf Co-Champ Louisville last year (Herd is just 4-6 this season) and same for Sunbelt Team FIU, who won at Louisville last year on the way to a 8-5 season, but this year, are just 3-8.
Good non-BCS teams generally have a much harder time to "rebuild" than most BCS teams...as non-BCS teams can and do have great seasons (see Houston, USM last year) but its much harder for them to have Top 25 type seasons year after year....something only Boise St has been able to do.
MAC teams have had a lot of Big non-conf wins this year...something they haven't been able to do much of in the past, year in and year out.
Conf strength goes up/down for every conf....believe non-bcs conf have much larger swings...as their programs have a much harder time to rebuild if they hit the jackpot with a certain senior/junior class.
