SMU fans ....
I'm going to send a letter to the athletic dep't regarding our uniforms. I think they stink. That bright red is horrible, and I've seen it almost peach-colored in some places on the internet. The true school colors (Harvard red, Yale blue) are very classy. I love the deep, rich red & blue. I know of no college team with colors exactly like that (although Ole Miss and Penn have some kind of blue/red combination).

The FB team never looked better than in the Yale blue jerseys, with the white helmet and white pants that were worn in the 1983 Cotton Bowl. Those were NFL-style uniforms, which are 1,000x better than some of the high school uniforms we see in college FB today. It's only anecdotal evidence, but everyone I've talked with about this issue agrees the blue unis are better-looking than the light red ones. And they'll probably appeal more to potential recruits than the red ones.

I'm going to suggest that we make the change to these uniforms next year, to "start fresh" as SMU joins the Big East. Do you think there is any chance that the athletic department considers this suggestion? Or do you think they are so committed to the red unis (for whatever reason) that they wouldn't take a serious look at this situation? Some of you may know someone in the athletic office and I'd like to know how they stand on this issue before I put a lot of time into writing a long letter.

I was a marketing major. From a marketing standpoint, I know the blue unis would represent SMU more favorably than the red ones. I believe this issue is critical as SMU begins to play on a more national stage and many people will be seeing us for the first time.

I welcome your opinion.

RE: SMU fans ....
Over twitter Rick Hart said something about hearing fans' concerns over the uniforms and their preference for Yale Blue colors like the Pony Express days (particularly the Cotton Bowl jersey). He said he'd look into it to see what he could do. The department is well aware of the issue, hopefully they can work something out with Nike.
