BCS Presidential Oversight Committee Meeting Next Week
The BE & the smaller conferences will begin their push for the 7th bowl next week at the BCS Presidential Oversight Committee in Colorado [Insert pot joke here]. Hopefully they will do so by forming an alliance with the Pac12 & the B12.

Here's a list of all the players at this meeting that I got from the link below. I thought it would be good to know who's going to be "in the room" during this pivotal time for the league.

Scott Cowen - President, Tulane University
Rev. John Jenkins - President, University of Notre Dame
Bernie Machen - President, University of Florida
Max Nikias - President, University of Southern California
Duane Nellis - President, University of Idaho
Harvey Perlman - Chancellor, University of Nebraska
John G. Peters - President, Northern Illinois University
Bill Powers - President, University of Texas
James Ramsey - President, University of Louisville
Gary Ransdell - President, Western Kentucky University
Charles W. Steger (chair) - President, Virginia Tech
John Welty - President, California State University, Fresno

"The conference commissioners and the Notre Dame athletics director make decisions regarding all BCS issues, in consultation with an athletics directors advisory group and subject to the approval of a presidential oversight committee whose members represent all 124 Football Bowl Subdivision programs."

I hope it remains at 6 bowls.

I hope it goes something like top 16 CC is AQ no matter how many champions are in that group. One guaranteed bid to a top 18 or 20 CC, including the BE, to round out the 6 Bowls. Independents must finish in the top 14 to qualify.

I think that is better than one guaranteed bid for the "other 5" and nobody else.

Otherwise, just go 6 AQ's with a guaranteed spot for the "rest", plus a provision for ND/Indy's. The selection committee picks the rest.

I personally would value CC and the former does that better than the latter.

RE: BCS Presidential Oversight Committee Meeting Next Week
After reading some of the articles over the past few weeks, I think it's more likely that there will be a 4th contract bowl within the 6 BCS bowls rather than a 7th bowl. It just makes more sense to me that way. They could rotate one semifinal among the Rose/Sugar/Orange and then rotate the other semifinal among the Cotton/Fiesta/Chik-fil-A. That way they have their 3 games on NYE and 3 on NYD that dominate the ratings. There really isn't a spot for a 7th game within those two dates and the BE/CUSA/MAC/MWC/SBC vs. PAC/XII isn't a big enough draw on its own to add to the mix without being in the semifinal rotation and it doesn't make logisitical sense to have that game outside the NYE/NYD window. The TV deal is really going to be maximized if each of the bowls hosts 4 semifinals in 12 years. The fact that the B1G/SEC secured a second tie-in to the Orange seems to have made the PAC and XII mad enough to go along with the group of 5, but within the 6 bowl structure.

Still, I really doubt much gets finalized before February.

I pretty much agree with this take, although I reserve the right to change my opinion, with further input from BCS leaks/quotes in the legit media.

If the G5 + B12/P12 bowl gets rolled into the 6, as is, and takes one of the access bowl slots, w/o any exception for BYU, I would think that should help the BE's case for BYU to join.

I agree. A nice benefit to the non-AQ slot being rolled into the current 6-bowl structure is the additional pressure it places on BYU to join the Big East. The seventh bowl concept still allows BYU access via the open access bowl. If the non-AQ bowl ties up the last access bowl, BYU is locked out of any guranteed access unless they finish the top 4.
