It should be GSU and eventually become a mini version of UGA-UF rivalry.

I see that angle too.

If the SBC really wants to be a type of SEC "Lite" then GSU vs FAU would be a Natural rivalry. Thing is the attendance will suck.

It would make sense for us to do so since neither of us have a close rival. I could easily get behind it. It just wont be attended well since we are so far apart. Out of all the options TxState and GSU make the most sense.

GSU trophy is a bronzed whip.

What would the TxState vs FAU trophy be?

You can not force a rivals it is like a blind date just akward. We need to do something really mean to each others school. Does Texas State have any trees they really like.

Trees ?? ?!? SAY WHAT????

Troy and USA will always be rivals. But a secondary rivalry between USA and FAU could exist. After all, USA got their first FBS win against FAU in double OT in their last transitional season and first season in the Sun Belt.

Think Auburn vs Bama.

So what can we poison in San Marcos?

I know, we as FAU fans can all pee in that river that runs thru campus. 05-stirthepot

Just as MT/WKU was going to be and is now one of the top football rivalries in the Sun Belt, USA/Troy will be the same. But the classic MT/Troy matchup will always be a special rivalry game.

Thus far in my dealings with other universities in the SBC, I can't develop hate for any of them.

I know that's lame, but until you guys c*ckblock us from a bowl invite (which means we have to actually be able to achieve bowl eligibility first), I can't hate on y'all.

I'm more curious as to who FIU will start a rivalry with. They still think that UCF and Miami are their main rivals............

Rivalries are not made, they grow for different reasons, over time (How long did it take 100 miles of hate to develop?). Owl nation is too impatient, you guys want an instant mix rival.
[Image: 101622824-260x260-0-0_Rival+Rival+91V+Ic...+Rival.jpg]

I can understand why you want a rival, all the big programs have these rivalry games, so you need one to show that you are a big program.

I was at the Southern - Appy State game last weekend. Good game, good atmosphere, great tailgating. In listening to the talk amongst them I realize the rivalry was about accomplishments, not about who can be most disrespectful of the demographics of the other school or its location. To get to that, it takes time and success for both teams.

But back to your comment, why would a FIU fans think those 2 programs COULD be become rivals:

UCF: 4 game home & home series. 1-1 split after 2 tense games. Has potential. USF refused to play UCF, hence the FIU series. Now they are in conference, the series may not go beyond the scheduled 4 games.

Miami: Played each other in almost all sports previously, however that is no longer the case. Now they decided to take on the weakest Florida football team next season 05-stirthepot. Baseball coaches hate each other (great turn out for the regional game last time), fans talk a lot of smack, yeah, no reason to think it would be a good rivalry. However, UM students can simultaneously take courses at FIU that goes directly to satisfying their graduation requirement, FIU students can do the same at UM. With this kind of constant mixing, it because difficult to really hate your classmate. Also I believe the athletic departments don't like each other much so no side wants to budge in terms of scheduling (FIU wants respect-aka: home & home, UM doesn't want to lose ground), I don't see that changing in the short term.

FIU/FAU "rivalry" I believe was beginning to mean something on 8th Street and in some ways I'll miss it, other ways I think it needed a timeout. The most memorable loss was the 2010 game (I still have nightmares about that game) the most memorable wins were last season's game at the cage, IT's last game up in Boca and a few baseball games. I know I will miss those. But then I remember IT first game at the Burrow, not for the loss but because of the behavior of the supporters in the stands, that I will not miss.

Anyway, I strongly believe that we will be again be playing each other in all sports sooner than later.

That hurts 4Ever, bringing up that basketball game last season. That really hurt.
I must say, IT's first game at the Burrow I was not a student then, but I heard about the embarrassment that our students put on. I must say though, y'all just never embraced the rivalry like we have. I remember I posted on y'alls message board that it is most likely because everybody down there blames the "South Florida sports culture" for why the students don't care and why the stadium is empty. Yet all the while FAU is prolly worst again thatn FIU, coming off a 1 win season, and averages around 14,000, with 4,000 students a game. By no means is that something to be proud of, but the reason why our attendace is higher is the same reason why we care more about the rivalry than y'all did.
Like I've said before, I'm more than happy to talk to some of y'all before the game next Friday (I even said PM me on FIUGoldenPanthers.com if y'al wanted to share a few beers and chat during the tailgate, nobody PM'd me btw) so I can actually show you guys how we were able to raise school spirit and pride, which had lead to higher attendance at sporting events and the students actually caring what's going on in athletics, this way y'all can bring these ideas back to FIU and have the same success in student life that we are right now.

Now, I'm currently trying to type and essay and this post is too long to proofread. If there's a typo or something wrong, suck it.

I know.

Troy and MTSU are the only ones that FAU has any kind of "History" with that make sense. However both of you already have great rivalry's.

I think GSU makes sense as well, especially considering that the SBC is developing into SEC "lite" and the Georiga/Florida game is always a big deal.
You Suck

FAU is looking for a new rival, but we really don’t know who it should be. At the Owls nest we are discussing who we should try and get something going with. Below are the candidates

TxState:
While at opposite ends of the conference geographically both Florida and Texas produce the most HS FBS talent in the nation and it could be billed as such.

GSU:
Our closest geographical neighbor, we do have one thing in common.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georgia_cracker

In the late 19th century and the early part of the 20th century, Georgia ranchers came to be known as "Georgia Crackers" by Floridians when they drove their cattle down into the grassy flatlands of Central Florida to graze in the winter, stopping where the citrus groves began. In order to get the cattle's attention they became very adept at cracking a bullwhip. The word was later associated with the cowboys of Georgia and Florida, many of them descendants of those early frontiersmen.

MTSU:
FAU beat MTSU to become the fastest school FCS school to ever beat a FBS one. Problem is MTSU has a GREAT rivalry with WKU and the 100 miles of hate is truly awesome.

TROY:
Troy literally owns FAU’s arse in Football with FAU only winning 2 games against them. However FAU kept them home from a bowl by beating them in 2007 and many Troy fans hate us because of that. However I think USA will quickly become Troy’ s Rival.

So any thoughts? FAU (and I think TXState) are truly hosed in the Rival department in the SBC.

We're your huckleberry . .. as the new kids on the block, without an in-state football rival, clearly we're in need of someone to hate, and so, I'd like to volunteer, on behalf of the Great TEXAS STATE UNIVERSITY and on behalf of the GREAT STATE OF TEXAS to step to the fore and start the HATE-FEST with FAU and FLA. See you next year. 04-cheers

Yea, we got an outlet mall . . you forgot to mention that we also have the best looking co-eds in these here United States of Ah-merica! Lookin forward to next year .. . 04-cheers

WHOAAAAAAA, I don't know about that one. Guess we'll after to agree to disagree until we go to San Marcos and y'all come to Boca

When FAU played UGA this past Sept. We stayed at a hotel in downtown ATL, a bit closer to GSU but right between y'all and the Dome. (Marriott Marquis). I must say, that is not a fun 1 mile walk or bus ride to deal with. And I'm actually right across the street from the stadium in these new on campus apartments.
If I could figure out how to attach a photo on here it would be nice to show y'alll!
