Katz: "Memphis should be applauded by the (BE) league office"

Point #2. Says Pitino was right that the BE needed to invite Memphis. Cites the current #2 recruiting class (right behind UK).

Btw, Point #1 says Buzz Williams has been suspended for one BE game. Didn't know that. But praises them for being open about things. Also mentions RU in Point #3.

Overall positive tone toward the BEast. Nice to see basketball season rolling around again, lol.

No. It's talking about being applauded for basketball. Try to keep up. 03-lmfao

That's fine and dandy, but we what we really need is for you to step up in football. Can your school keep up?

Everybody seems to think we only were good under Cal. But we were just as good from 1983-87 where we went to 1 Elite 8, 1 Final Four and a second round appearance. In 1991-92 we went to the Elite 8 and in 1994-95 we went to the Sweet 16. The only thing Cal did was take us from a good regional program to a good national program. His first 5 years were not that impressive.

2000-01 NIT Final Four
2001-02 NIT Champions
2002-03 NCAA first round loss to Arizona State
2003-04 NCAA Second round loss to Oklahoma State
2004-05 NIT Final Four

Who says we need to keep up? You? Do you think we were invited for our football program?

And do you think every football team in the conference has to be consistently great, or even consistently competitive? Show me even ONE conference where that is the case. Never happens over any long period. And we're really about the only consistently bad FB team in the nBE.

Beyond that, we're putting the money and effort into football to get the program back on its feet. And your memory must be bad, b/c we went to 5 bowl games in 6 years, just a few years ago, without anything close to what we will see in the BE. We'll be competitive again, so stop worrying, lol.

Cal squandered some very talented teams I recall Antiono Banks (I think) and Dajuan Wagner coming in and giving the #2 UC team all kinds of trouble and that Memphis team could only make the NIT.

Unlike Josh Pastner....Cal had to turn around a losing program...as the 2 previous seasons before Cal took over, Memphis was 6-10 and 7-9 in CUSA play...and the Pyramid in Memphis was basically then half-empty for a lot of games.

Cal had to do a "sell job" on both recruits and fans to finally turn around the program...something Josh Pastner didn't have to deal with (took over a very "rich" program with a ton of money, top facilities, plus obvious recent NCAA Championship Game appearance).

What are you talking about? and what does that have to do with what I just posted? Cal squandered very talented rosters early on, it wasn't until UC, UofL and Marquette left C-USA that they even started winning.

You have bought into the Tao of Cal. Cal inherited a roster that included the future SEC scoring leader(McFagdon) and a three time first team all-CUSA center(Wise), and a future NBA player(Barron). Pastner inherited Spoon and 5 bench players.

Just noted what Memphis was like when Cal took it over (i.e. losing CUSA seasons, declining fan base, etc...), that's all.

Yep. He under performed for several years before he got it going. He had the talent but wasn't able to do anything with it.

I'd say that's because most of the NBE fans are to young too remember teams from 70's , 80's & the 90's. Memphis State has pretty much always been A good basketball program.
