I know we all hate the Sagarins BUT.....
Jeff Sagarin, whom we all hate, has the Belt 8th in the latest conference rankings (ahead of the Mountain West, the WAC, the MAC, and CUSA).

We all know his rankings are crap, but people do look at them.

http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/sports/sagarin/fbc12.htm

At least if we do okay in our bowls, we should start next year with decent ratings.

Nope. It's crap.

We cannot dismiss it for the last 10 years and now all of the sudden since he has us smelling rosey, all of the sudden take him seriously at all. Sagarin can kiss it.

Sagarin has been hard on my Dawgs this year, but I still agree with it... we haven't played any good teams (except A&M). We are #18 in the nation this week and it has us #3 in the WAC! (but I agree with him over the polls).

I find it interesting though that those sun belt critics (including some of those FCSers that have recently been politicking on this board for SBC membership) who used to throw the sagarin in our faces, haven't been doing so this season.

I didn't say it wasn't crap. But people do look at it. That was my point. Sagarin still thinks that 12 FCS teams are in the top 100. Completely ridiculous.

It's not because Sagarin likes you now, it's because you've improved.

I get that, but his system is still highly flawed.

That's because the mods banned us for weeks for mentioning Sagarin. If you are FCS and talk Sagarin, you will be banned. Therefore, no Sagarin talk. We were up to the 70s in Sagarin at one point and 90th now. Not bad.

I am surprised this thread is still here.

I'd put the MAC ahead of the Sun Belt right now.

I'm not sure that you really can say that the MAC is better than the Belt or the Belt is better than the MAC. It depends on how you measure it.

The MAC will get 6 bowl eligible teams out of 13 (as Miami(OH) is unlikely going to a bowl after blowing it against a putrid Buffalo team). The Sun Belt will get 5 or 6 out of 10 into bowls. The teams at the top of the MAC are ranked higher than the teams at the top of the Belt, BUT.....the bottom of the MAC is worse and bigger than the bottom of the Belt.

It looks like there will be ample opportunities for the Sun Belt to prove its' worth against the MAC in bowl games.

Sagarin is the weakest of the BCS computer polls and even at that they make him alter the formula to be included.

RE: I know we all hate the Sagarins BUT.....
Just note that Sagarins has CUSA in front of the MAC. The MAC has about as many or more AQ wins than CUSA has wins against FBS teams but is somehow ranked ahead of the MAC. Tell me how that makes sense considering the bottom of CUSA is also putrid.

Only because his regular poll includes margin of victory and the NCAA doesn't want to give teams a reason to run the score up.
