Yo....Z! Or Any Other Cajuns!
Put this in another thread, but didn't know if you'd read it. Wanted to be sure you did.

First, major props. You saved me prolly a $1k+ by diverting me away from New Orleans direct into LFT Muni. Muchas gracias amigo.

I absolutely cannot wait to visit the great state of Louisiana, the UL campus, the stadium, and the tailgating. Always thought my first trip would be to fish the freshwater marshes for a lunker bass, but each trip I've scheduled in the past has fallen thru. If I can't make it by bassfishing, I can't think of a better way to see the state than a visit to UL.

Now that flights are almost booked (waiting on final #'s; right now we're at 4 & could be 8 in my group), what hotspots can you recommend? We'll be arriving at LFT Muni at 3:30. So, we'll need dinner recommendations and some evening extra curricular activities.

Final question: Hilton or Crowne Plaza?

Team is staying at CP, but we're a bit worried because:

1) CP doesn't look as accommodating;
2) not sure how Andrew Jackson would react if beed comes in at 3:00 am and tries to wrestle him out of bed; &
3) not sure how Coach Willie will react if beed comes in at 3:00 am & awakes the team. May pull our sideline passes!

PS - Guys only trip. No wives, girlfriends, or goats coming along!

Funny how a Parish(no county) with 250K has commercial air service, right?? HAHA!!

We'll have more info as the time approaches..Tons of places to eat and party!

Looking forward to it. TRY THE HILTON GARDEN INN right across from Cajun Field..

No wives, girlfriend or goats...isn't that redundant for you guys?

Seriously, go to Ragin Pagin and post this and it will probably generate a dozen pages of resturant recommendations. If you are wanting Cajun, Prejeans on I-49 is good or drive down to Abbeville to Shucks or Duprees for good seafood. Lafayette has a number of good restaurants such as Marcello's for Italian, Matzen Grill is very good for continental cuisine. And that doesn't even scratch the surface.
The downtown area around Jefferson St has a number of entertainment hot spots.

I know, way too early. But we're pumped!

Looks like Hilton Garden Inn for us. Probably not a good idea to stay with the team anyway...

BTW, I never knew how large Lafayette was until I started doing the leg work (you're welcome Beed) for the trip. For some reason, I was thinking 25k-50k population - much like BG.

Lookin' forward to it.

They have a pretty neat downtown touristy district. Kind of a mini-Second Avenue (a la Nashvegas). It's more of a bigger town feel in that area. We have nothing like it here in the 'Boro, nothing remotely close.

The crowned plaza is now rebranded as Hotel Acadiana so id say Hilton. But they gave a bunch of new hotels along pinhook road and kaliste saloon road. Can't go wrong there.

Recommend you search for arkstfan's post a couple of weeks ago. We gave some food choices there.

Congratulations on selecting Lafayette for your road trip. You're going to love it.

The hotel doesn't matter too much, the Garden Inn is adjacent to the stadium but not close to much else. Most of the other acceptable hotels are around the Kilistle Saloom and Pinhook crossing. This is a nice area close to the Blue Dog Cafe and along the Bayou Tech but also close enough to the airport. No matter how much a bargain, avoid any and every hotel on Evangeline Throughway.

Lafayette is a great town with several good restaurants, but the real value lies in visiting the adjacent towns; Breaux Bridge for the alligator swamp tours and the Cajun restaurants, New Iberia for the immaculately maintained Shadows on the Teche plantation house, and Avery Island which is the home of Tabasco. There are also some enormous salt mines at Avery Island but I'm not sure if they still offer tours.

Get to the stadium early on gameday, the tailgating is outstanding and the Cajun faithful will make sure you are well fed and they'll keep you supplied with cold beers.

Soileau in Opelousas has the best jumbo fried shrimp ever, twenty minutes North on I-49. Don's is always great at either downtown or Johnson Steet, Pats and Robins to the East in Henderson.

If you want real Cajun food, with that home cooked style, and attitude you gonna have to find smaller restaurants that I am sure the Lafayette natives will be glad to fill you in on.

Also, Downtown Alive is on right now. Free live performances in the downtown area with lots of drinking and dancing opportunities.
