Amen, thats how it should be.

Right now both our schools are on islands in our confrences. And we have the same attendance issues as you do. I do think our students are more involved at this time, but thats because FAU's SG and Admin have gone above and beyond in trying to get them involved.

RE: FIU Attendance
FIUTheProud has a good attitude and I enjoy his posts. A couple of other FIU fans here - not so much. That might be one reason for the FIU hate fest. But the biggest reason is FIU's bailout on our conference.

And, yes, I would rather see my team in the Sun Belt than C-USA (as set up for next year) any day of the week! We're better, growing in stature and size and have a much brighter future.

If for some reason ULM got ranked and kept it going for several years and C-USA came calling, I would honestly hope that we would turn down there offer and stay in the SBC. I really do think the SBC has a brighter future. 04-cheers

RE: FIU Attendance
How many schools that are not BCS or AQ or will not be BCS AQ stating next year are averaging 30k plus in attendance?

Sadly not many. Sadly those of you with humiliating home attendance are the norm of non-AQ football. Right now there is ECU, Air Force, BYU, UTEP, and Fresno who I believe meet the 30k standard. That shouldn't be that difficult a threshold to meet, but sadly for most of you it takes 2 or 3 games to get there.

I don't remember FAU home game vs Middle Tenn last year drew more than 4,000 in the stand so you shouldn't be laughing at us. If you feel good about having 500 more fans than us then whatever makes you happy.

As for the attendance on Thursday night or so far in general I'm disappointed and embarrassed. I agree with all of you and we should be ashamed of not drawing fans to the game. But I gotta backup my FIU fellas here. Miami is an event town. We have the mentality of "if you don't win, we won't show up; if you do win, we may show up". there are so many things and events you can do or attend here besides games. Unfortunately it's a "Miami" or "South Florida" thing and I'm certainly not proud of this. But you'll understand this and can only understand this if you actually live down here. Miami's home opening game against FCS team Bethune-Cookman drew less than 20,000 despite the announced attendance of 40,000. The only way to build hardcore fan base here is to win years in years out. And we're certainly not winning now. The lack of tradition may be another factor but I hate to use this as an excuse.

I don't remember that either, maybe because it didn't happen. Good to know that we can agree. Have a nice day.

We own them in every sport, support, student life, and soon we'll be in the better conference. It's like FGCU all over again.
Awesome.

FIU fans just don't show up. FIU had the lowest attendance bowl game last year even though it was within a 4-5 hour drive from campus.

I am not sure about your numbers concerning last year's bowl. I was there and I was very happy with the turnout. Maybe I am wrong but I thought it was a good showing.

However, what is the obsession with all things FIU? I don't understand it. Is it envy? Hatred of Miami and all things Miami? A dislike of the name International? A cultural thing? Help me out here. Most FIU fans on this site and at the games are "well-behaved," passionate about football and FIU, and accepting of our team's faults. We tend to congratulate the winner publicly and have not seen any disrespectful behavior towards opposing fans at our stadium (although I am sure it has happened). Most of our fans try to be the opposite of the Hurricane fans in terms of behavior and attitude. We may have terrible attendance but we have a small group of hardcore fans. Yes we were completely wrong about our team this year but so were many non-fans. Perhaps we drank to much Koolaid but then again I see this from almost every fan base. And most of us have admitted we were wrong about FIU with dignity. Don't believe me? Go read the past posts.

SOOOOOO: I will try to explain this to you all again. FIU will NEVER have great attendance. PERIOD. We all know this as FIU fans. Our attendance will continue to improve as the years go by and more students attend and graduate. It will also improve with "generational game inheritance" - again dad's taking kids to the games. Also, attendance will improve with better facilities, bigger/better conference affiliations over time (hopefully). BUT AGAIN, FIU's attendance will never match the attendance of college town teams. You may not like it. This may upset you. But it is what it is. Period. End of story.

Perhaps FIU is more successful than the rest of the Sun Belt in ten years. Or maybe it will be a disaster. I don't know. But to bet against the survival of FIU football is the equivalent to those people that ten-plus years ago predicted that McDonald's would not survive in this more health-conscious world. Again, FIU is in a big city, with lots of football talent. We will be fine. Worry about your survival. Thanks for reading.

+1. Great post.
