I thought the NFL couldn't use FBS or FCS officials due to their contracts. Most have been Division 2 or Division 3 NCAA officials or NAIA officials.

GB was robbed.

Just realized that you might be kidding because of him playing in the Sun Belt, etc.
Ow, well. Probably kind of slow on the uptake.

It is not that the NFL cannot use FBS or FCS officials but that (with the exception of a couple) none would take the job. College officials are independent contractors. I guarantee you that the commissioners of the conferences (FBS and FCS) told all their officials that if you take any game with the NFL that they would not receive a college schedule this year or ever again. Nothing those guys can do about it as they are independent contractors. I imagine that a lot of these guys that were working Div II and III won't be getting back in the college ranks. For some of these guys, you are seeing the last games they will ever officiate (maybe they will work at the high school level). Anyone worth a darn that has the thought of moving up in college or to the NFL did not take the NFL offer. You are seeing officials who aren't good enough to move up or are too inexperienced to move up.

The FG that won the game against New England was pathetic. This call was absolutely horrendous. That official may understand that simultaneous possession belongs to the offensive player but he obviously doesn't understand what simultaneous possesion is.....sad!!

All of these refs want to move up in their careers. Becoming a scab will definitely hurt that goal.

I guarantee you that they will not move up. Most, if not all, of the conference commissioners for officials are current or former NFL officials. If not, they have close friends who are and I guarantee you that they have the names of everyone who took a game. They won't get a chance to move up. Several years ago when we had the strike, I had friends (CUSA, ACC, Big East) who were told that if they took a game they were done. I am sure it happened this time around as well.

Most of the regular NFL officials have 20+ years of experience before sniffing an NFL field (and that is fast tracking). They started at the JV/Middle school level, worked their way through high school and started at the lowest level of college (Div II or III). After years there, they went up to FCS. If they were good there and did well at clinics, they got a shot at one of the FBS conferences. Several years at the highest level would get them a look by the NFL

These guys are either on their last legs as an official or are stuck at a level and won't move up. Anyone trying to jump ahead without paying their dues (time and experience) won't get another shot.

The bogus roughing the passer call on that same drive (where GB should have had the INT) was on Blue Raider Erik Walden.

Yes.....that was the first missed call.

I was shaking my head when they showed Tate acting like he just saved the world.

RE: Green Bay at Seattle
NFL just announced that the TD was correct but admitted it should have been offensive pass interference.
