RE: UConn fans very disgruntled.
Reading some of the Uconn reaction to the game is hilarious. They act like it's a huge upset that WMU won. They say condescending things like "directional Michigan school" and refer to the MAC conference as weak. Well, WMU has beaten you twice in a row. Once at your place, once at ours. We were favored by Vegas to win, and we did! The Mac Conference beat every Big (L)east team they played today.

say it's pretty clear WMU is the better team, and the Mac conference is superior. In fact, the only MAC losses this weekend were Bowling Green (to Virgina Tech), EMU (to Michigan State, barely.) and Akron. They can back off their self righteous elitism that doesn't even deserve to exist (how do you have elitism when you aren't elite??)

They keep ragging on the fact that there were only 10K who showed up. Am I disappointing at attendance? Yep, but that is entirely due to the weather. Out of all the people I know (students) who weren't at the game, it was all because of the weather and the forecast. By the time it appeared the weather was going to be fine, they were busy with other activities. Bright sunshine day? 25K easily. Plus the fact that Uconn isn't really that exciting of an opponent. There are opponents students would stand out in the rain for (Cmich, or large B10 schools) but Uconn isn't one of them. If it was at their place, I have a hard time believing attendance would have been any better with similar circumstances.

When Michigan or State fans have this type of elitism it's expected. I just cant fathom where Uconn fans get it from.

Well, you need to realize that UConn is the big, er, the ONLY fish in the pond there. The state flagship University. The big kahoona. But, UConn got into the BE based on their hoops program, which dragged them into sudden AQ status and even perceived value. That perceived status infected the fan base, which believed in their team, and their conference, joke that it is. Since BE schools get more and $pend more, the conference must automatically be better and therefore, the teams in it are better. That is the thinking.

So, the result is that you see them making fools of themselves on message boards. But who hasn't done that before?

Parity rules. The major difference now is depth.

As bad as the B1G is this year, I still think the Big East is even worse.

Not sure why you're surprised at anything fans say. Look at our crew after/during our losses to BCS programs. You'd think we were the 80's Miami U team.

Before things got nasty, DB made a good point. I feel like we have high expectations for our squad, including beating what we feel are lower level BCS teams. I don't blame them for expecting to beat a team that they almost hear nothing about. When we lose those games, i find myself saying, "Damn.. if alex had done this... OR If Simon filled that gap.." Its almost never giving credit to the other team for being the better squad that day. I see what you're saying DB.

As for the Big East vs. Big Ten... While neither has been impressive, I think top to bottom B1G is better, but that is a great question Nacho

Completely forgot about that. Had to go back through the ILL thread and remind myself. Ok, I'm not as lost and confused now.

RE: UConn fans very disgruntled.
As far as the Huskie fans go, I don't see this being so much a matter of arrogance as it is of ignorance. Too many people in other areas of the country have no clue as to how good MAC football is. They have little or no exposure to it. They know little about the MAC itself.

I ran into this same problem when WMU played Iowa twice. The MAC is regarded as one of the "little conferences" with "little schools." Quite amusing when you consider that WMU and Iowa are very close in size. There was considerable shock and awe when the Broncos won. And anger! Fire everyone associated with the athletic department! Why? Not because Hawkeye fans are arrogant. (Heaven knows, Iowans have had - and continue to have - issues of their own.) But because they're not familiar with the MAC and our teams. Unfortunately, to fans of other schools not exposed to MAC football, the MAC still signifies three running plays and punt. Rinse and repeat on the other side. Unfortunately, it's still your grandfather's MAC throughout much of the country. And that's why the out-of-conference teams we beat are so upset when it happens.

DB would fart in the middle of a crowded room and think he was doing everyone a solid.

I would like to join the texting club with nacho and persky.
