Depends on what your definition of ally is, is. Obama's Foreign Policy Experience is on display. Shoot first, aim later.

State Department corrects Obama, says Egypt is an ally

To fully understand what Obama is saying, the second thing you have to assume is he has no idea what he's talking about. The first thing you have to assume, and we all know this well, is that he's lying.

I said this on the other thread.

I think what Obama said was pretty good. It was cautious and careful given the circumstances. I really don't knock him for that.

What I knock him for, and the MSM for not mentioning it, is the $1B loan forgiveness he just gave this new Gov't in Egypt.

That's reckless and inappropriate for US citizens. And it proves you can't buy friends.

Perhaps not, but we rented one for 36 years (well two, if you consider the first one was assassinated partly because of it).

I read an interesting piece on Sadat the other day. Seems he dumped the USSR and came to the US for aid...but he initiated it and the peace efforts. I think that's different.

He was actually right. They are not our ally. Obama helped remove our ally. I'm coming to the conclusion that Muslims NEED a dictator.

That was pretty much the British experience from the 1930s to about the 1950s.

That's a big reason why I've never bought into the neocon mantra that establishing a democratic government in Iraq was the way to achieve stability in the Middle East.

The neocons liked the dictators until they realized that they couldn't make them behave. Then they decided that democracy was the brilliant solution. The answer is that trying to manipulate their internal affairs is not going to work. Let them do their own thing and find ways to deal with the results.

I think that's the direction that Condoleeza Rice moved us in and where we're at now. Actually, Ariel Sharon may have led the way with the withdrawal of Israeli settlements from Gaza with the full knowledge that Hamas would fill the vacuum.
