WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Georgetown University senior men's lacrosse standout Steve Dusseau (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) has been selected as the recipient of the school's 2001-2002 Robert A. Duffey Award as announced by Joseph C. Lang, Director of Athletics. The award is given annually to a Georgetown senior student-athlete who best embodies academic and athletic excellence. Dusseau becomes the fourth men's lacrosse player to earn this prestigious award since its inception in 1955.

Dusseau is having an exceptional 2002 season. He currently is second in the nation in goals per game and stands third nationally in points per game. He is a finalist for the 2002 Tewaaraton Trophy, awarded to the top men’s lacrosse player in the nation, and has helped lead the Hoyas to a 11-1 overall record. He was a preseason All-American selection and was chosen as the Preseason ECAC Player of the Year. This summer Dusseau will be a member of the 2002 U.S. Men’s Lacrosse Team, which will be competing in Perth, Australia. He has netted 44 goals and 14 ***ists thus far in 2002 and has been named the Warrior/Inside Lacrosse National Player of the Week and ECAC Lacrosse League Offensive Player of the Week twice during the year. He currently ranks fourth all time in goals scored as a Hoya and is sixth in points.

At the conclusion of the 2001 season Dusseau was chosen first team All-American and was a Tewaaraton Trophy finalist. He was named the 2001 ECAC Offensive Player of the Year and set a GU midfielder record with 38 goals in one season. Dusseau ended the season ranked 14th in the nation for goals per game and led the Hoyas in points with 50. The Hoyas advanced to the NCAA Championship for the fifth straight season and finished the year with an 11-3 overall record and its second straight ECAC Lacrosse League Championship.

His sophomore campaign concluded with Dusseau tied for third on the team in goals netting 26. He helped lead Georgetown to the NCAA Championship Quarterfinals and the 2000 ECAC Lacrosse League Championship in the League’s inaugural season. His first year at Georgetown was limited by an injury but he still saw action in 13 games, scored 13 goals and handed out five ***ists. He was a major contributor toward the Hoyas’ run to the 1999 NCAA Championship Final Four, seeing action in all three games and adding two goals and an ***ist to the Hoya effort.

Dusseau, the son of Claudia and Paul Dusseau, is a psychology major and has been a Dean’s List student throughout his four years on the Hilltop. He has been a part of 47 wins during his Blue and Gray days which places his senior cl*** as one of the most successful in the history of Georgetown men’s lacrosse.
