UNTs Craig Robertson Impressing The Browns
[Image: temp4X9E3072--nflmezz12801024.jpg]

Sleeper of the camp: The odds of Craig Robertson making the Browns’ final roster were about as slim as those of the kicker backing up Phil Dawson.

Reflective of those small odds was Robertson’s jersey number assignment – No. 47. He’s a linebacker. Rookie fullback Brad Smelley shares the same number. If there was going to be one No. 47 in September, it figured to be Smelley’s.

But Robertson has been impressive enough at weakside linebacker and also on special teams, where he currently is a starting player on every kicking team. That’s a pretty good sign that Robertson is on track to make the final 53, though he is not taking anything for granted.

“I would describe it as a dream come true, just to be out here. It’s just a blessing,” Robertson told me Sunday

Consider Robertson’s path to the Browns: After four years at North Texas (formerly of the Sun Belt Conference), he was not drafted and not signed by any NFL team last year. The owner’s lockout delayed or derailed the careers of hundreds like him. Many have fallen by the wayside and ended their dreams of pursuing professional football.
