RE: How would you schedule
Yeah, I tried to give us a Texas team every year in Week 2 (though they may all be a little too strong for us right now). Would any of those teams come to San Marcos? Doubt it...but Tech is, so anything is possible I suppose. Maybe sub a Rice home-and-home for the TAMU and Houston games...keep SMU in Dallas. Regardless, our fans would be able to see the 'Cats in all the big markets in Texas (Dallas, Houston, Austin/SA (all home games), El Paso).

I do like the idea of no body bag games. They suck bc I want to win every week. I guess I'm just used to our FCS model of scheduling.

bodybag games are an unfortunant necessity for the mid-major conference programs. the key is to sell enough tickets to be able to limit the number of them you have to subject your team to each season.

Just me talking here, but for the next 2-3 years, I would think we'd be the most attractive school to a school like Rice & SMU.

For bowl eligibility, they can only count one FCS team. So schedule a weak one and get that "nearly automatic" win. Next, because they will struggle in conference play, they'd need a winnable FBS game to strive towards that minimum number of wins. Enter teams like UTSA, us, and other transitional schools. They're considered FBS, but (in theory) talent and depth is not yet full fledged FBS.

So, from their view, it's like two FCS games. You'd just have to agree to come to San Marcos eventually to get that game.

Now, in 4-5 years, they might not be willing to schedule us. Because as the SBC is considered inferior, a loss to us would be bad for them.

IN THEORY (I stress that), our size and alumni base should be sufficient to sustain the program without too many of them.

In 2 years, if we aren't averaging 18k in season tickets, I'd say we're in trouble.

We just have too many pseudo local alumni to not be at that level of sales.

And with the next phase of construction (the "student side" round out), we'll be adding more suites that will only generate more revenue.

It is my understanding that right now there is ample demand for more suites, so selling those shouldn't be difficult, particularly if we can continue to bring in quality opponents like the SBC offers and Tech/Navy/etc. If we were to add schools like Rice, SMU, UTEP, UNT, etc.. We should be able to sustain a 25k average attendance after we take our lumps as we grow into FBS.
