WoW... I come here and don't say one word of smack and get it. Someone is either butthurt or jealous. If not both.

Nah, Memphis fans are butthurt. Everytime you mention Tennessee they get this severe inferiority complex.
It really will make a great indoor facility, but we're not going to have Marshall level stuff for awhile.
I've said it a hundred times it seems like, Dr. Noland can't come in and just start firing people, he's doing what he needs to do. The cat and mouse game of ETSU not getting a conference invite will lead to some form of football, and truthfully with FCS non-scholarship getting an auto bid to the playoffs now, there's absolutely ZERO REASON to not have non-scholarship football.

Here I go again. If ETSU is spending more annually on athletics than Georgia Southern, for example, why are we not playing scholarship-FCS football today?

Because ETSU doesn't mortgage the rest of the athletic dept. for football. Ga. Southern does. ETSU could tier it's spending and shift the money around and probably have both, they just choose not to. Football is hard work. Football is long days on Saturdays, extra security, more people on campus and some folks might even drink beer. :GASP!:
Stay in off the ledge, and give the new guy a chance, and that chance may have to be more than six months.

As you'll soon find out, most of the rest of the teams in this league have about 12 fans total. This is the downtime for this board as well.

Enjoy the time you're here -- NKU will be in the ASun for as long as it takes to transition to Division I. After all, this is really the Trans(itional) American Athletic Conference where 22 schools have transitioned through since 1978, with SEVEN of them leaving since ETSU joined.

Just wait until basketball and our first matchup. We'll be in a 2-3 and you guys will have some 5'8 Rudy-esque player that hits ten three pointers and we end up taking a loss.
Bring your friends, pop some popcorn, order some wings, get a keg of Budweiser and sit back and watch.
The ones of us that are left and care are probably the most disgruntled folks in college athletics.

It's ok im a 4th generation Cubs fan so I know all the hardships of fandom. NKU is in a really interesting phase right now. They have always been that school that you root for because you go there and they are local but everyone still has other teams they root for (UK, OSU, UC and Im a Michigan State fan). But now that we are D1 I will be curious to see how our fan base develops. Last year there were flashes of a good student section like at our DII rivalry game against Belarmine so this year could be exciting.

Remember how we did against Milligan? NKU vs. SEC's Kentucky....copied from NKU's site:

NKU men battle Kentucky to 2-2 draw

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University men's soccer team battled the University of Kentucky to a 2-2 draw Friday night in front of a packed NKU Soccer Stadium.

Friday's exhibition match set a Norse attendance record, as 1,206 fans packed the NKU Soccer Stadium, creating a loud and raucous atmosphere. It was the first sellout in stadium history.

.........................................................................................................................

Looks like they have a nice stadium. Could there be football in their future?

"We won't waste time complaining. We will focus on competing," said new NKU President Geoffrey Mearns.

The SEC doesn't sponsor Men's soccer. Big Blue Nation and their moron fans play soccer in Conference USA.

Yeah, even the SEC comes up lame from time to time. I think it's very "OVC" of them that they don't sponser men's soccer (when they do sponser women's soccer). The interest for the sport seems to be throughout the SEC. Every school has it as a club sport, while 3 have it as varsity.

Hey Commissioner Slive: Just go ahead and make it an SEC sport.

That does't make any sense, especially when you consider that the ACC does sponsor men's soccer, and most of its soccer playing members are in North and South Carolina and Virginia, which is pretty big pigskin country, if memory serves.

So I guess that the fact that the ACC sponsors men's soccer says it all. Or maybe the Pac-12 sponsoring men's soccer says it all. Or what about the Big East? Maybe that says it all. Whatever "it all" is supposed to be.

I think the important point to be made is that the ACC and PAC-10 play soccer secondarily to football. Football is their major fall sport and then they have soccer for the smaller number of people who want to watch that. Nothing wrong with that. None of them is now playing soccer as a replacement for real football. Walk into any ACC or PAC-10 school and tell then you are going to replace football with soccer and see what happens. That mistake was made by our school and we are still trying to get started on cleaning up the mess it made. All of the other schools in Tennessee play football for a reason-it is in their best interest to do so.

RE: Did the A-Sun replace Belmont with a better Belmont?
Of course the SEC could sponsor men's soccer, and pay for it many times over. My take is that they do not sponsor men's soccer due to philosophical reasons. It's FOOTBALL SEASON in the South and men's soccer does not fit into the SEC's view, image, or cultural heritage of what college fall sports is all about. Why the ACC, the Big East, the Pac-12 .. good question. Probably has something to do with political correctness or something along those lines.

And the reason that ETSU has men's soccer is because they stumbled and bumbled into the sport when joining the A-Sun; somebody told them that it was required and they fell for it. Then along comes Kennesaw who was smart enough to get a waiver -- something the clowns running the ETSU athletic department would never have thought of.

RE: Did the A-Sun replace Belmont with a better Belmont?
The absence of men's soccer in the SEC is philosophical. It isn't because of football culture in the South however. As an aside, the SEC and Big 12 are the only BCS conferences that don't sponsor men's soccer. (As far as the OVC comment, they don't have men's soccer because those school's budgets are already stretched thin as it is and they can't afford to add any more sports. They barely are competitive in half their sports anyway.) The SEC sponsors only 14 sports (They do sponsor equestrian, swimming and diving, and gymnastics by the way. So if whatever the SEC does "says it all" I guess we need to work on adding those sports ASAP). That is the least amount of sports of any of the BCS conferences. For comparison the Pac-12 sponsors 24, the ACC 18, the Big Ten 18, the Big East 17, and the Big 12 16. The SEC doesn't sponsor many sports, so the sports they do sponsor are all very well funded. So, not a lot of variety, but high levels of quality. The Pac 12 actually places a very high emphasis on their Olympic sports (as they are called in college athletics, not the "minor" sports). If the other conferences chose to sponsor less sports, they could then funnel even more money into football and maybe they would have the depth across their conferences on a similar level to the SEC. However, they choose not to. Those on this board would call that foolish and say the SEC is the only conference with a reasonable philosophy.

The win/loss may be speaking for itself (at least in volleyball). NKU is looking better than Belmont!

NKU 3-0 so far:
At the Western Carolina invitational in Cullowhee, NKU beat St. Peters 3-0, WCU 3-1, and NC A&T 3-1.

BU 1-2 so far:
At their own Belmont Invitational on their own court, BU choked. They beat AL A&M 3-0, then were dropped by Northern Colorado 0-3 and TCU 0-3.

A-Sun standings:
Northern Kentucky, 3-0
Kennesaw State, 3-0
ETSU, 3-1
FGCU, 2-1
USC Upstate, 2-1
Mercer, 0-0
Stetson, 1-3
Jacksonville, 0-3
Lipscomb, 0-3
North Florida, 0-3
