WKU vs La Tech and Karl Malone
Great Video on WKU and La Tech in 1984. This was one of the most talented teams ever at WKU. Entire front line drafted in NBA, Frank, Johnson, Martin. Also notice the crowd of over 14,000.

Greek, I'm curious.

I thought that the three point line was not part of the game until '87? Was that some kind of trial? Did other levels use it? Not doubting you, I just don't remember.

I was 8 in 1984. I know that my Dad took me to see some great games back then but I don't really remember them specifically.

Now that was before I damaged my hearing with my stereo but I remember it being SOOOOO LOUD back then.

EDIT: Okay, I looked it up and it seems that the three was introduced in the NCAA in 1986-'87 but other levels had already adopted it. So maybe it was there for ABA games or something?

I was 8 when that game happened. I know that my Dad took me to see some great games back then but I don't really remember them specifically.

i believe the sun belt tried it out a year before the ncaa did. could be wrong.

The Sun Belt was the first conference to use the 3 point line and the 45 second clock then the 35 second clock.

Yes you are correct on the noise. Your ears would ring for 30 minutes after the game from that metal roof.

Wiki is not that reliable but they claim that the Southern conference was the first to have the three point line in 1980. I wonder if they got confused.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three-point_field_goal

Its weird to think of conferences getting to make thier own rules.

i think they were the first. in the back of my mind someone tried it before us but we were one of the pioneers. i had forgot the sun belt was early with the clock too.

it was an exciting time in the belt.

uab with bartow
south al with peanut butter and jelly
vcu with calvin duncan and rolando lamb
old dominion with gattison
unc-c as a former final 4 team
south flarda had a scoring machine...charlie something i believe

all of these goobers that make fun of the bubas cup have no history of what a great hoops visionary vic bubas was.

roll this one around newbs. the sun belt got 4 teams into the tourney one year.

I hope the SBC can get half way back to though days soon, and all the way back to those days in the next 15-20 years. What a great day that would be.

Question: Will the emphasis on football in the SBC keep the BBall down?

I am a huge football fan, and would never sacrifice football for any sport, but just wondering if that is one of the reasons why SBC BBall has fallen off the map??

MT was in the first ever game to use the 3-point shot. I believe it was against Western Carolina.

They made one before we did 03-banghead
