I would love to see it happen though. He's a joke of an AD and just a puppet.

No, no, no. I was stateing that some poster on here was suggesting that JMU change AD. Then mentioned that GaSo just did that yesterday.

Sorry, didn't make that too clear.

GA St. Should appreciate the offseason, that's the only time of the year they have anything to be excited about. We should let them have this time because a month from now it won't be pretty.

They have an invite to an FBS conference, you're still playing a team that runs the veer, one that once known as "The Fighting Christians," another that wears purple and has a magician as a mascot and a poor Western Carolina program that I'm fairly certain couldn't win the South Atlantic Conference or the Peach Belt right now (Those are D-II leagues for those who are unaware). Meanwhile Ga. State will again get beat up fairly bad this year, but continue to build and move forward towards FBS.
Of course keep in mind right now I'd love for my beloved Bucs to get back to the SoCon and have football, but I'm sure you already know that.
It'll be fun however watching Appalachian whip your ass in football this year.

I was just thinking the same thing. An etsu fan without a football program is giving the Socon heat lol

Can you explain to me why ETSU doesn't bring it back? Seems its being added all over the place. If a broke school like UNO (New Orleans) can afford to add it, why cant ETSU? You could rejoin the Southern or CAA or the OVC and life would be peachy.

RE: Georgia State Dead Last
We're currently being propped up by student fees, 80 percent to be exact. The professors are underpaid at the school on average plus our athletic director is inept. It's not the end of the world at the moment, we played JMU in hoops last year and beat the living crap out of them (finished 5th in the A-Sun by the way if that tells you where JMU basketball is), and also got a win over Charlotte.
Some changes have to be made first in JC and i'm okay with that, and I know the usual "you don't even have football" stuff comes around anytime I crack on Ga. Southern, the thing most fans don't realize is I know what it takes for them to be competitive (ie cheating their butts off) so whatever. The butthurt they suffer from knowing they'll NEVER have the budget to move to an FBS conference is masked by their ill fated attempts at bashing other schools.
It's kind of like Cartman on South Park trying to pick on Kyle, then Kyle b-slaps him and Cartman whines like a 4th grader who crapped his pants at recess.
So yes, Jawja Suthan is the fat kid who crapped their pants at recess. The Sun Belt is MUCH BETTER OFF without them.

Georgia Southern is good because we are cheaters. Sounds like the same line used against Alabama. I'll take that as a complement.

Not bad for a fat kid who crapped their pants at recess. Your program folded and you were voted out of the SoCon. That never happens. You need to disengage from Smack Talk as a result or prentend to be an alum at a different school. Not many choices these days in Tennessee though.

RE: Georgia State Dead Last
Incorrect, we were NOT voted out of the SoCon, ETSU left on its' own accord before any vote ever actually took place. ETSU didn't meet the requirements of sponsoring football (Davidson, UNCG, CofC are excluded from that rule) and went to another conference. It was a poor decision.
And best I remember, didn't Ga. Southern basketball get smacked in the face with sanctions as recently as 2010? I seem to remember an academic scandal down there.
And calling what Ga. Southern did in a lower division in football as the greatest run ever is a farce, I could care less about what the statistics say. Make a run like Bud Wilkinson did at Oklahoma 47 straight wins against top level competition then brag.
Here's the bottom line for ya, you've been passed by Old Dominion, Ga. State, Marshall, Boise State, FIU, FAU, Middle Tennessee, and Western Kentucky just in recent years. It won't be long until you're left behind by Appalachian, and if the money flows right probably Coastal Carolina (Okay, maybe not Coastal but their coach literally bought his job, so they have a ridiculous budget for what they are) and whether anyone likes it or not, probably Liberty, too. You operate on a budget less than ETSU's while trying to prop up football with 72.7 percent of your budget on the backs of students. According to the 2011 financials Ga. Southern reported, you had a whopping 600,000 dollars in "Contributions" reported.
I guess in short, you're an FCS program, that's where you're always going to be.
Much like college, FBS isn't for everyone.

GA St. is 88% funded by student fees so that excuse is a poor one for ETSU.

As for the SoCon, ETSU didn't have a choice. I personally wish they had stayed.

I still don't get it. ETSU has, year in and year out, a good basketball program. Were they kicked out or forced to leave? If so what makes them more unwashed or less desirable than other basketball only programs?

What about the Colonial? Arent you right on the Virginia border?

RE: Georgia State Dead Last
The bylaws of the Southern Conference state that in order to be a full member of the conference you have to sponsor football. ETSU, without discussing it with anyone else in the conference around April of 2003 decided to disband football. In the subsequent meetings, they left before a vote was taken knowing that they didn't meet the requirements to retain membership in the SoCon. VMI a few years earlier actually wanted to move football to the Big South and remain a Socon school in everything else, and that was voted down.
Year in year out, ETSU logs wins in basketball. The Atlantic Sun is truly a transitional league (Ask Troy, FIU, FAU, Ga. State, Belmont, UCF).
The CAA is not interested in ETSU, they don't fit the profile of those schools.
And I agree with you Saint on the excuses, but again it's been years of poor management at the university dating back into the 60's and 70's. In my lifetime, I've seen ETSU get passed up by East Carolina, Middle Tennessee, Western Kentucky, App, Chattanooga, Ga. State, Troy, Central Florida, Marshall, and every single member of the Sun Belt. Fellas, a well run ETSU over the last 30-35 years and it's no question that we're having a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT discussion here.
All kidding aside though, Ga. Southern should follow the Montana/Montana State model. The WAC begged them both to move up, and they both realized that while they could in theory be the next Boise State, they also know they have a good thing in FCS and are doing things the right way. Same with App, depending on your age Saints, I remember the Mountaineers beating Wake Forest YEARLY down in Winston to the point that the Demon Deacons won't go near them anymore, but if you moved up, that would work out pretty well, too.

Oh yes enjoyed those trips to Winston while I was in school.

If a conference could look past the perceived challenge with App's location it could be a very nice asset for someone.
