The Atlanta Braves
Now that the first half of the season is over how do you feel the team performed?

RE: The Atlanta Braves
As expected. I wasnt expecting them to be leading by 10 games or anything like that.

RE: The Atlanta Braves
Far too inconsistent for my liking. 13-12 in June? Losing record at home? Splitting a four game home series with the dreadful Cubbies? The funny thing is, that shows you how good we've been when we've been good, despite all that, here we sit just four games back at the break. The thing that drives me craziest of all is the eight game losing streak. We cut that streak in half and we still had a bad four game losing streak in May, but we're at worst tied at the break. Hell, considering three of those eight games were against the Nats, if we could have just won two games against the Nats, we could have gone 2-6 in that eight game stretch and we'd be on top right now.

I think we'll be playing important baseball games in September, but what worries me is not only this team's inconsistency, but also their tendency to shrink in the spotlight. They've struggled in big games for a couple of seasons now. Fortunately, McCann looks to be turning things around, Heyward is playing well, Chipper is going to be Chipper, and Bourn and Prado are on fire right now. I'm troubled by the Simmons injury, I don't feel good about Wilson or Pastor taking his spot for the next 4-6 weeks.

Actually we did lose the season series to the Cubs... *salt in the wound*

They took 2 of 3 at Wrigley a few weeks back making the season series 4-3 in favor of the Cubbies.

Welcome to suckdom. We can see who sucks the most in our series at Turner this weekend.

The good thing about the Braves is that we can expect about two more months of decent-at-best baseball before the wheels completely fall off the wagon.

Hoping for the best in the 2nd half.

Hopefully Sheets can come in and be a good 3/4 starter, and Wren will likely still try to land another starter through some trades.

With an eye on next year: I'd like to lock in another OF (since we'll either need 2 new OF an OF & 3B) this season, but that's VERY unlikely.

Hey, which future Hall of Famer on your AAA team will you be using to replace Simmons at Short?

haha...right. Unfortunately unless we make a move, we'll likely see some combination of older than dirt Jack Wilson who can't hit a lick and or the rookie that started the year at short Tyler Patornicky who swung a decent stick, but has hands of stone in the field.

Just another time that one of the most boneheaded trades ever made comes back and bites us in the ass.

For about five months of Mark Teixeira we gave up:

Elvis Andrus-Earned the Rangers starting SS job at 20 years old, two time all-star(2010 and 2012)

Matt Harrison-Starting pitcher for the Rangers since the middle of the 2008 season. 2012 all-star.

Nefali Feliz-Former closer turned starter for the Rangers. 2010 all star.

Jarrod Saltalmacchia-starting catcher for the Red Sox. Admittedly he's been a bit of an underachiever who seems to finally be coming around, but at the time he was one of the top prospects in all of baseball.

Beau Jones-Minor league pitcher for the Marlins.

Salty would have been gone at some point. Would never have seen Turner Field being blocked by McCann. He's good this year, but i see him counted as a big loss on that trade when he wasn't.

And if Andrus were in ATL, Simmons would still be in MiLB.

You're absolutely right, but every one of them, especially Salty since he was never in our plans, could have been better used in smarter trades. What did we end up flipping Teixeira for on the other end? Casey Kotchman and some minor league pitcher?

RE: The Atlanta Braves
Pastornicky huh? I remember facing ole Stone Hands back in April. Unfortunately I also remember that series where the one where Jason Bay had to rob Jack Wilson of a homer. Mets fans everywhere were praising Bay for making a great catch. I was wondering how we almost gave up a homerun to Jack Wilson.

We just lost our #5 starter for the season to a blood clot in his shoulder. He was supposed to throw Friday against you guys. Im curious who we call up whenever his turn comes around.
