Texas Tech threatens to cancel game
The Red Raiders are scheduled to come to Bobcat Stadium on 09/08/12 and open our new season and renovated stadium.

Latest rumors out of Tech Messageboards, say that they are threatening to buyout (cancel) the game because the game may end up on ESPN's Longhorn Network.
WAC said that it would end up on an "ESPN" station, but didn't say which one. Although it has not been formally announced, people are speculating that the LHN is the station.

If this comes to pass, it will be a HUGE blow to Texas State. If they bought it out, we would be stuck with a bye that week and our home opener would be against FCS Stephen F Austin. We would go from a sell out to a well.... not sold out.

Texas Tech = Scared

Thats sad.
If Oklahoma State took it like a uhhh...umm...anyways..yea...back in '07 against Troy on national television then why can't Texas Tech even if its on the longhorn network...who cares.

This sounds iffy. Can they just back out of a contract three months out? Over something so minor? I mean the home team controls who where and if the game is televised. This is normal.

I dont see this game getting canceled this late and certainly not for such a silly reason.

RE: Texas Tech threatens to cancel game
Contractually, the Western Athletic Conference, of which Texas State is a member, has the right to determine the broadcast partner for the game. Tech, however, has always expressed reservations about appearing on the Longhorn Network. Last year, ESPN approached the university about airing it's conference game against Texas but Tech refused.

Refusing to play on the Longhorn Network is not exactly new for Tech so folks shouldn't be surprised if they do cancel unless it's moved to ESPN. If people knew how they feel, why try to push it ?

The network (Longhorn) is desperate for games to fill slots & most in-state schools are not really interested in helping.

I dont blame Tech. Why on earth would you want to appear on a network named after your instate rival?

Sucks for Texas State, but I think you probably ought to be more upset at the WAC actually showing interest in putting the game on that channel.

Cowards. They may use the LHN as an excuse, but the truth is they are worried the Bobcats will whoop 'em and they dont want to take the loss.

Indirectly the Longhorn Network is one of the reasons that conferehnce realignment began so quickly. The creation of the network pushed A&M's side talks with the SEC into a more serious deal.

Honestly, if you asked most Big 12 AD's 90 percent of them would tell you they are incredibly uncomfortable with the network's existance, especially its desire to show High School games.

And the longhorn network is not national TV. You'd get about as many viewers just putting the game only on ESPN3.

Yeah gotta agree, this is all about not doing anything to help Texas. They are not worried about losing to the Bobcats, what possible effect on the outcome of the game would it being on the LHN have? If they were willing to play it on ESPN, but not on LHN, how does that equal scared of the Bobcats?

Agreed... It would be like asking Troy to play on the UAB network, or posing for a picture with some dudes junk. Playing this game on the LHN has no up-side for Texas Tech.

The WAC needs to try and move the game to ESPN, the Duece, or espn3, and make a little cash before the conference closes up shop.

RE: Texas Tech threatens to cancel game
This falls on the WAC. One last poor decision before closing up shop. In sure espn made it sound good to them but they don't understand how much the other Big 12 schools don't want to play on that network. They must have missed Techs outrage with it last year. Fix the problem you created WAC.

Texas St stands to lose a lot if this falls through. It's what's sold season tickets, hotels are at over 80% full in San Marcos at double the price, and people have been planning this trip since it was announced. This would be a massive blow to the program and city. I bet the WAC decision makers got some phone calls from city officials and officials from both universities.

I would be surprised if this isn't worked out.

And no Techs not scared. He was joking.

Maybe this is the WAC's way of punishing Texas State for going to the Belt?

For the person asking about backing out three months prior ... yes. Hell, they could back out 3 days prior as long as they pay the fee.

I was just told LHN/ESPN will not pursue the Texas State-Texas Tech fball game that had raised blood pressure of #TTech officials.

Chip Brown from Orangebloods tweeted that the game will not be pursued by LHN/ESPN. If that means its not on tv at all that's ok. No one gets or watches LHN anyway so it's not like it's any different.
