If Appy would have had their crap together and moved up around 2000-2003, they could have had time to prove they can do it not only in football but got their basketball in order. If that would have happened, Appy may have had a ligitament shot at a CUSA invite.

Also in 7-10 years I can see Charlotte avging 30-35K in football.

App State averages almost 30,000 fans per regular season football game now. Most years we are averaging more than Marshall. As to what UNCc will average in 7-10 years, who knows, could be much closer to 3,000 than 30,000. I do wish them the best though.

As for basketball, when was the last time App State and Marshall played in basketball? That's right a couple of years ago when App State beat Marshall, in the post season basketball tournament.

We know that Marshall didn't want App State in CUSA. Hard for your administration to build your football program with those "L's" next to the App State game. Can understand that.

It's a shame really. Marshall has a winning tradition in football, really good record over the last years in the MAC conference. Your administration knows though that Appalachian is only a game behind Boise State for highest winning percentage in Division One.

Congratz on a basketball win were we played with a coach that wanted nothing to do with our program. Donnie Jones had already packed his bags and was just waiting for the season to be over with, and the faster the better. No one knew it at the time but the day of that game he just came back from Orlando FL and had already accepted the UCF job. The man took our starting PG out for 3 mins of a crutial part of the game.

With our coach now, who can actually coach on the floor. I would put Marshall's starting 5 of that game against Appys starting 5 and I can bet and win, we would win 9 out of 10 times. If not 10 out of 10.

Mike Hamrick and Dr Kopp wanted nothing to do with Boone NC not Appy State. Not only are you isolated with no airport. But Boone does not have that well of an infrustructure. It has nothing to do with Marshall being scared.

We have airports all over the place. The one 25 minutes away in between Hickory and Boone can land just about any type airplane, as well as one 30 minutes East of town in Wilksboro that lands 737's. Tri-Cities airport in Tennessee is about 45 minutes away, Winston-Salem and Charlotte airports are available. Additionally we have a small airport in Boone and several just outside town at these ski communities. What, did they build an airport in downtown Huntington since the last time I was there?

What infrustructure problem? We have Apple-Cart buses that pick you up anywhere and take you anywhere in and around Boone. We have five major highways coming into Boone, all are 4 or six laned except one. Got a feeling someone hasn't been to Boone since they drove their brand new T-model into town.

As for basketball you could talk all day about your coach just taking the UCF job and not caring whether he won a basketball game or not? Come on. You know even you do not believe that. Any coach worth his salt wants to win every game.

Since markets have driven the latest runs on the conferences outside the Big Boys, we will be constantly looked at as a "small market" teams and there is nothing we can do about that.

Did both schools make a mistake and not move up awhile back? Probably. But there is mis information out there about that. I don't think either program was looking to move up 10 years ago. I read peoples comments on here that GS has been trying for 30 years but that is simply not true. We honestly only recently began making a push to make this happen. For the last decade we had an administration that didn't put much weight on college athletics. Now we do and look at the difference. Powerhouse program from the mid 80's up until the early 2000's and then a different admin comes in and we go through a decade of being average. Now we have a new President and we are back on top in multiple sports, won Socon championships in Football, baseball, volleyball, softball and golf in the last two years.

Both App and Southern's day is coming soon. The big question is where will we land and will we still be in the same conference as those goat lovers :)

Can one of the mods get rid of this thread? Nobody wants to read a flame fest between two schools that are not in the Sun Belt (Marshall and App State).

I would probably say we'll end up at 18 (just a hunch...no evidence). If that happens, I'd look for MTSU, FAU, Arkansas St., and WKU to get invites... This would eliminate crossover games while adding FBS teams who have shown that they can be competitive. That being said, it also wouldn't surprise me if Delaware replaced one of the above mentioned teams.
