Kelly Johnson would be an upgrade at 2nd. If we could get him for some no-name single A player, then I'd do it in a heartbeat. I saw EA3 mentioned Darwin Barney...I'd take him as well. The Cubs look to be in "fire sale" mode, so that move seems very realistic.

Whatever the case, a move needs to be made. Our 2nd basemen have been abysmal.

The Astros MIGHT want to trade Altuve IF they have a 2B in AAA or AA that is on the fast track. I don't know if they do or not, I haven't done any research on it.

If so, they would be trading Altuve at a high value.

Kind of like the Pirates trading Nate McLouth to Atlanta 3 years ago. He was an all star centerfielder heading into his prime. The Pirates traded him to Atlanta when his value was at the highest because they had another CF in the pipeline by the name of Andrew McCutchen.

I started the process by identifying 6 or 7 teams that have practically zero shot at making the playoffs this year...Houston, Seattle, Oakland, etc...and threw in Arizona because they have 2 serviceable 2B.

Peralta needs to be investigated for throwing that game. Absolutely ridiculous. He booted 2 routine plays! Cost them the game.

Sad thing is, he didn't boot them. Santiago's foot was on the base...that should've ended the inning. I'm never one to complain about officiating in any sport (except the NBA...they suck and they know it), but we've been jobbed quite a bit by the umps this year. Mario and Rod could put together one helluva case for instant replay for next season, simply by using Tigers highlights from these first few months.

Once again, Eagle Sam, is dead on.

The umpiring vs. the Tigs has simply been awful this year.

If the umps had gotten one of the two right last night, the game might have had a different ending.

I'll call it the "Galarraga curse." :(

I agree about the umpiring.

However, it doesn't excuse Peralta for giving Santiago a less than accurate throw....OR....completely throwing off balance to first base when he had plenty of time to set his feet and make a solid throw.....lazy...just lazy...

I can handle the first error because 1. he was out and the ump blew the call and 2. it didn't cost us the game.

I can't handle the second error because 1. he had plenty of time and 2. it cost us the game

TIGERS ARE A SAD BUNCH AND THE YEARS BIGGEST DISSAPOINTMENT. YOU WONDER WHY CLEVELAND LET PERALTA GO LAST SEASON FOR ALMOST NOTHING. HE HAS NO RANGE, CLEVELAND HAD EVEN MOVED HIM TO 3RD BASE LAST SEASON. GRANTED HE HAD A RAL GOOD STINT WITH THE TIGS LAST SEASON BUT THIS YEAR HE APPEARS TO HAVE FALLEN BACK TO THE OLD PRE TIGERS PERALTA. TIGS INFIELD DEFENSIVELY IS THE WORST IN ALL OF BASEBALL. SAD!
I AM NOT A BELIEVER IN THEIR SECOND HALF CHANCES, HOPE I AM WRONG BUT .............

I saw Jed Lowrie (SS/2B Houston) mentioned as someone the Tigs might target.

Tigers will be BUYERS, not sellers. NO team with Cabrera, Fielder and JV is a seller...

Peralta joined the Tigers in 2010, not last season.

We might be getting a gift back with that boot by the Cubs SS.

BTW, Tigs are still w/out:

Avila, Fister, Albuquerque, Dotel, Dirks, V-Mart (September????), etc.

Tigers are start their move, only 4 games out.

P.S. I owe Castro, the Cubs SS, an apology. The boot in Wednesday's game was by the 3rd baseman.

Add Symly to the DL. Fister back Saturday, though.

Apology accepted. 03-melodramatic

The Tigers have turned it around. 02-13-banana02-13-banana (I think).

I'm a big believer... Hoping for 2 of 3 from the Rockies. Just keep winning series. Or maybe this is a series which would be great to sweep. 03-cloud9

White Sox at Dodgers for a series and if the Tigers sweep Colorado the race could be close in 72 hours.

I'm looking forward to the White Sox series next month in Detroit which I hope becomes the date when the Tigs are officially in first place.

July will be a big month with series vs. the entire AL Central including back-to-back series vs. Chicago and Cleveland.

I'll be at the Nationals' game tonight vs. the N.Y. Yankees. Two hottest teams in baseball.

Steve......
They played the Cubs...
I'm a life long fan, but even I know the Cubs are horrible this year.
Don't get too excited yet.

You are right, but they have played well at the end of the CLE series, the Cincy series and Cubs series.

They are playing better BUT the bigger thing is that they will be at near full strength within say two weeks and they should roll then.

To me it it both on the field performance and talent infusion from players returning from the DL (e.g., Austin Jackson) which has me optimistic.

Dude, they continue to make the same damn mistakes! They barely beat the Cubs (in my opinion, the WORST team in baseball). Last night's gem, 12-4 loss to Colorado should tell you that the Tigers absolutely blow.

RE: O/T Are the Tigers about to Turn it Around?
Yes, the Tigs can be frustrating to watch this year. Too many probable Ws turn into Ls.

I was conversing with someone in the media who knows the Tigers and their prospects like the back of his hand.

The Tigs have a lot of bargaining chips if needed to get what they need to contend.

They won't trade Jacob Turner or Nick C. who are top prospects, but they have a young catcher, Rob Brantly, who is absolutely tearing it up in Toledo (and previously Erie).

The problem is finding a good second baseman who someone will give up.

Hopefully we'll see Smyly back soon and also Jacob Turner make it to the Tigers.

Pitching will get better. Injured players will be coming back soon. Second base is our disaster area where all of our prospects washed out.

A good second baseman is a luxury not a necessity. Santiago and Worth/Raburn will suffice this season. What the Tigers really need is a solid shortstop. Jhonny Peralta just doesn't have major league range, rendering the left side of the infield with Cabrera horrendous. You can see the pitcher's frustrations when outs are turned into hits and double plays are not getting turned. I would package a prospect with Peralta to get a competent shortstop.

I believe the Astros have a top young SS who can double at 2nd.

Question how much would it cost to get him????

RE: O/T Are the Tigers about to Turn it Around?
Sorry, but "range" is so overrated. The San Francisco Giants won a World Series with Pablo Sandoval, Edgar Renteria, Juan Uribe, and Aubrey Huff in the infield. If you have good pitching and a line up that can produce runs, you don't need Ozzie Smiths in your infield. Peralta hasn't been great this year, but he isn't the biggest problem at all. We could only muster 4 runs yesterday against a guy who couldn't top 85 mph. We stranded at least 10 or 11 runners.

Our starting pitching has also been horribly inconsistent. Porcello and Scherzer have one decent start, then get killed in their next one. Smyly is finally looking like a rookie. Even Verlander has had a couple iffy outings lately. We need Fister back in a bad way, and probably need to trade for another starter and send Porcello down for a while. I'd also look to get a 2nd baseman who's somewhat competent offensively. That position has been a guaranteed out in our lineup so far.
