I'm sure you've read my comments criticizing the reported decisions not to take out Osama and Mullah Omar in the early days of the Afghanistan war. I am in agreement with the "Don't hang out...," comment. But if that's going to be the rule with drones. it should even more so be the rule of engagement for troops on the ground. Nobody gets killed if you're too cautious about releasing a drone strike. It's another matter when a soldier fails to shoot first and kill someone who is about to kill him.

On the other hand, when competence determines how much of his socialist agenda Obama is able to implement, he can't be too incompetent to suit me. I don't want Obama to fail, but I do want the US to succeed, and I don't see how one can happen without the other.

I agree in most part, but there are political decisions that Obama has made that would probably have been different under another president. Chief among those is to act in Pakistan to the detriment if US-Pakistan relations. That, in turn, affects supply lines into Afghanistan, which is almost certainly why Bush didn't act more aggressively inside of Pakistan. With regards to Yemen, there would likely not be much of a difference (though it's not clear but perhaps interesting to speculate if Bush would have authorized killing an American citizen with drones).

Obama told you that he was going into Pakistan 4 years ago. It's not like you didn't know. He's so smooth.

Yes, and it shouldn't be difficult to find my predictions that this would be a very bad idea for a number of reasons. So, I was wrong about the outcome and Obama deserves credit for that. But, there may also be affects of this policy that we are not seeing (perhaps the surge to Afghanistan resulted in more troops going into military bases, but not going out on patrol?).

But the video clip... really? I think the old bag is wrong and deserves the scorn she gets - although if you read the comments via the youtube link, there are some spelling out their disturbing, bloody fantasies of what they would've done to her had they been there, complete with sexist slurs. However that act of 'violence' of grabbing a sign barely registers a 1.0 on the Richter scale. If that's Evidence A for '********* violence', anyone can google up 100 Euro anti-austerity and Occupy Oakland protest photos to put that lady's antics to shame.

Joint Congressional Resolution authorizing use of military action against AQ passed back in September 2001

Presidential authorization "Finding" for Covert Action contained in 50 USC Section 413B

Obama doesn't unilaterally hold a death lottery. All the targets are legit dirtbags in AQ Leadership and Operations.

The Rules of Engagement are contained in the Finding. "Acceptable Collateral Loss" is authorized.

Obama's Finding is sent to the Congressional Oversight Committees prior to the Strike. I haven't seen anything that Congressional Oversight ever nixed a Drone Strike. No member of Congress on these Committees have ever complained on the record about a strike.

You have Sheila Jackson Lee and Hank Johnson complaining-- but they don't count.

Remember, a CIA strike team had UBL in their sights in 1998. Target ID'd confirmed, strike team ready to take his compound and neutralize the target. But Bill Clinton aborted the Op because a UAE Prince was there visiting UBL.
