Don't think it will ever be App State. Too much pressure by the fans to get something done instead of waiting around. Will probably be GaSo or Kennesaw State in Georgia and NMSU.

It would give us a travel partner, so we aren't stuck out on an island. Throw in that it would get the Belt in the Houston area for recruiting, the possibility of a game or two in Reliant, etc.

NMSU is still on an island, but they are a short term answer anyway, I think.

Plus, given that Lamar was talking about waiting one more year before moving up (back when they were talked about for the WAC), the timeline would make sense.

But really, I'm just throwing them out because they haven't been mentioned lately, and while I would like App State, it's nice to have a change of pace answer.

I'm opposed to Lamar because of their history. But if we need to add Lamar to keep Texas State from being alone....and Texas State wants them. Then I'll go along.

Adding Lamar and UTA starting football would give the west 6 football members and 1 olympic only. Add one olympic only school to the east and you have a 12/14 membership.

This would be the only reason to add Lamar. They do have plans to come back to FBS and expand their stadium.

If the president's thought that they were the "bell of the ball" they would have found a way to invite them.

It's not happening until the study is complete, and I think it's already established that the SBC will leave out NMSU.

Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn!

When does Kennesaw State start playing football? If they add them and Ga Southern, man that would be good for Ga St.

If the WAC survives as a FBS Conference, I will almost guarantee you that if the SBC wanted a WAC team located within its foot print, they will be able to get them.

Honestly? Given the relatively tight footprint that the Belt has, I'm not sure we (we, meaning Bobcats) NEED a travel partner like that. I mean, the Louisiana schools aren't that much farther than Beaumont.

I just threw out Lamar to add a new school to the mix. Not a knock on the others, but I just got tired of saying App State & Georgia Southern.

From a conference perspective, I'm not keen on New Mexico State either, because it just increases travel for everyone but us (San Marcos to Florida is not much different than San Marcos to New Mexico). While I like the idea of my beloved bobcats being the center of the universe, it's not what's best for the conference in my view.

QUESTION: Has AppState EVER made known their interest in having the SBC make an offer (formally).....for them to become a member?

Or, has it been some active fans on this forum?

One thing is certain....there will be NO offer unless they make the request to be admitted. And, from what Mr. Cobb has illustrated with his pleading case to be admitted to CUSA....I don't think the request of the SBC will ever be forthcoming.

So....no matter how much we might want them to become a member and companion in our conference.....IT WILL NOT HAPPEN! At least not until Mr. Cobb makes the required request on behalf of his University.

No. I think we are going to just start asking for membership in the Big East. The strategy worked so well for East Carolina that it is a time proven method. Last I recall they suppossedly had requested membership something like 29 times (personally I don't believe that). It would kill ECU if we got in.
That new WAC you mention would be pretty sweet geographically, but I doubt there are enough school presidents out there with enough guts to do it. But if there are it could hit big due to regionalization. All Eastern teams would be close enough to get fans to away games and push attendance way up. Imagine App and JMU would have 45,000 to 50,000 regularly. Bet MTSU and Western Kentucky would get interested if successful. (I know, those fans are going to deny it, but could be something they would be interested in, especially if they got a good TV deal with the David -vs- Goliath ad campaign.)

I don't believe we have closed the door on expansion. I also firmly believe App. St is high on the list. We will do some more research on the benefits and then add 2.

RE: Two more will be added next year...WHO WILL IT BE?
I would have preferred that an additional two members been brought on board....but inaction at this May 22 meeting has put us in the old `wait and see' Stance.

It does away with the CCG and the possibility of an additional BOWL game. From our ten members, we will make available the two members to host the two bowls with which we are affiliated. The additional two members might have allowed us to seek an additional Bowl game because we would have possibly three with records that would be respectable. $$$$ would have been the result of this formulation. But, now we have to hope that three teams can survive with appropriate records to open the way to that third BOWL. Not imposssible....but, very unlikely.

Actually, West Georgia is going to leap-frog them, and get into the mix.

Valdosta is in South Georgia - nobody cares about anything south of Macon.

Savannah is one of my favorite cities. That is why my vote is for Savannah State. But ONLY if they change their name to the "Sand Gnats"!

Savannah #15 best nightlife in US.

We should have moved on UTSA/Texas State earlier. Maybe UNT would not be gone now.

I don't want to make the same mistake and leave Texas State out an island if we can avoid it.

Nothing to fear.... IF the WAC reloads w/FCS startups the SBC will be wayyy above in the pecking order and could pick and choose who they want from the WAC anytime they want. Double-A vs Single-A... Just sayin'.

I would think that the teams that form the WAC east would want to make sure that they are all committed to staying so that everyone is not left scrambling a year or two later. Therefore, they would write in strong exit penalties to make sure everyone is in for the first 5 years or so. By that time, the conference may be stable enough where teams would be less likely to leave unless CUSA came calling.
