Hey we did win the SBC in Basketball in 2010...And now that we have that nice new arena I fully expect we will start recruiting better and improving greatly in this area.

I would have included basketball, but since joining the Belt we've only been good two seasons (2009, 2010).

no you won't. maestri has a tried and true system. recruit as many txfer castoffs and jucos as possible. then every 2nd or 3rd year when you have 9 seniors that have only been at the school 2 years compete for the title.

he'll never win the conference tourney because he builds his teams on offense. and if they're on they'll destroy you. but you don't usually win 3 or 4 games in a row without being able to grind on defense. and he doesn't teach how to grind on defense.

i'm not dogging him. dude may have the safest job in gump-land. he wins enough to keep the 4 or 5 basketball fans in the state happy.

leapords don't change spots, tigers don't change stripes and people don't change. i just don't foresee maestri taking a summer course from steve shields in grinder ball.

but kudos on the new arena. it was needed and looks great from all of the drawings.

Maestri won't be at Troy forever dahbeed, and when he's gone we'll still have the nicest arena in the Conference. Our recruiting will improve dramatically because of that fact, so I expect our basketball to move toward the elite end of the non-P5 ranks in time.

I think it'll take some time. Yeah the new arena will help A LOT, but we need some new blood on the men's bball side. Our new women's bball coach is a really great hire and will start a winning tradition. I think in the next few years TROY women's bball will finally start competing at the Div 1 level.

Elite of the non-power 5 is a tall order, not even WKU can claim that in the last ten years, they flirted with it briefly, but I just don't see that arena, no matter how nice putting you up there with the likes of Utah State, Gonzaga, Xavier, Butler etc.
