Let me know when UNT has a winning season....
Remind me how many conference games in a row UNT won? Pretty sure Troy was getting steamrolled then just like they did last year.
And last year we were, what, 3rd?
Remind me which team sent UNT to a BOWL with a LOSING record....ya thats right TROY.....And actually this was only TROYs 2nd losing season since it Joind the SBC in football totally in 2004...AND on top of that the first year TROY was eligable to go to a bowl THEY DID!

Your wins in the SBC in 2001-2004 means NOTHING compaired to Todays SBC. The conference was SOOO weak back then, Pretty much glorified FCS programs.

I said a couple of days ago that this talk of a 10 year moratorium was going to make for some crazy things the next little while.
Thought I read an article about two months ago about Alabama State having some major financial trouble.
Concerning FAMU, didn't their president resign, or fired, the other day when five or six of their students were arrested concerning their drum major's hazing death? They started to move to FBS years ago but decided not to when they got in NCAA trouble didn't they?
the problem with the HBCU's moving up is that for them to be successful many of them will have to move up in a block. Otherwise, they will alienate their fan bases and reduce alumni support and dollars.
That is just not going to happen. Finding a conference to take them all will not happen and the rules do not allow a conference to move up.
Besides the days of HBCUs is coming to an end. Perhaps 10 years, maybe a little longer. With real integration of all members of society the reason for them as a separate schools has passed. As the older generation passes, younger generation will be less and less likely to go to a heavily segregated environment. Some HBCU are alrady attracting non-blacks and will in time more reflect more our overall makeup.

Depends on perception. If you are speaking of since the SBC started football, then I agree.
If not, you are full of it.
Newcomers from "in ranks" and additions have unquestionably "devalued" the conference.
The newbies aren't as strong as the losses.

I'm agreeing with you. On Alabama State as FBS and how long it would take them to get there. JSU will get there eventually. I'm not sure JSU will get in the Belt but if you want it bad enough, you will get to FBS. I don't see it happening for Ala. State- they don't act like Division 1 now in any event.

You started the thread, lol! Are you really suprised where it ended up considering the recent trend of threads on this page?
What is the deal with you have with fcs schools in Alabama? Troy has had a good run as a successful FBS program. Al st and jack st internet banter pondering fbs isn't going to change that. Starting next year you will play uab and usa every year, and will be able to prove that Troy is the third best fb school in the state on the field from here on out.
For me, words can't express how happy I am that my school finally has a team. I am glad to be in the sb. If it were not for the sb, usa would not have an fbs team. I also happy to have an in state "rival" with Troy. I hope we play for many years to come because I have a feeling we will spot you a few w's in the first couple of years, and will need some time to get the w-l record close to even.

If the Hornets were trying to move up they would have to have an invitation from an FBS Conference. As it stands, their only hope is us, and I don't see the Belt tossing them a rope to pull 'em up from the depths of FCS mediocrity.
Why do these FCS folks continue to talk like simply deciding to ascend upward is all it takes? They have to know the rules.
I can't blame them for wanting to do what Troy has done, but the simple fact is they are not Troy.
Just like Liberty, they have a great new stadium !
Florida A&M was all set to join the Sun Belt a few years back. I think one HBCU in FBS would be interesting.
No, I don't think that Ala State would be a great fit for the Belt (their football is too far behind, and they'd likely have to play too many FCS HBCU's. But they're certainly not as far fetched as Liberty and I'd prefer them to Jacksonville State.
FAMU would be the only HBCU that would work in the SBC. I do not see it working out for any other school.
I agree. FAMU is a bit ahead of the HBCU pack in most areas.

The funniest thing about this thread is that 99% of you would still rather have Alabama State in the SBC than another we won't mention. I find that appalling.

You are absolutely correct to bring that up. However, I was referring to their business school, which while not rated highly, seems to produce great graduates. We recruit there because we've had more success with qualified candidates than at some much more highly ranked universities.

Alabama State is in our footprint. They are a public university. They have a brand new football stadium. They don't discriminate on the basis of race, sexual orientation, or religion. They are much more of a fit than the school you are promoting.
That being said, I think that having 3 FBS schools in the Southern half of Alabama might be a bit much.
Alabama State isn't getting an upgrade. But they are still a better fit than certain other schools.
